Transportation Engineering Technician III

State Highway Administration's (SHA) District 3 is currently recruiting for a Transportation Engineering Technician III in District 3 (Prince George's and Montgomery Counties). This position is open to anyone who meets the minimum qualifications listed below. The resulting list of eligible candidates will be used to fill this vacancy and may be used to fill future vacancies within SHA.

Nature of Work: This position is for administrative and technical engineering work performing a variety of administrative and technical support tasks. This position will be involved in coordinating with various SHA support divisions, engineering design consultants, other state and county agencies, and community representatives through the access permit process. This position will also assist in responding to requests for information (RFI) and field work to assist Access Management Project Managers during reviews. In addition, this position will be involved in the materials clearance process for developer projects.

Qualifications

Education: Graduation from a standard high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.

Experience: Three years of experience in technical engineering related work in the areas of design, traffic, construction, materials testing, engineering surveys, maintenance, or planning.

Preferred Qualifications:

The ideal candidate should possess the following:

  • Excellent computer skills, including being proficient in Microsoft Word and Adobe Acrobat
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Capable of working independent of full oversight

Notes:

1. Applicants may substitute education in a civil engineering curriculum at an accredited college or university at the rate of 30 semester credit hours for each year of the required experience.

2. Applicants who possess an Associates Degree in Engineering, Construction Management or Surveying or Surveying Technology from an accredited community college, college or university are considered to have met two years of the required experience.

Licenses & Certifications

* Candidate must possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in state of Maryland.

* Must be available and willing to accept assignments in Prince George's, Montgomery, Anne Arundel, Howard, Baltimore, Harford counties, and Baltimore City.
