Job Objective

This position assists in the troubleshooting and repair of automated equipment and assembly cells. The Automation Technician will also routinely perform preventative maintenance on all equipment and components, in order to ensure the continued safe and efficient operations in this fast paced-working environment. Also, possess and maintain a skillset to trouble-shoot, repair, install and optimize automated production equipment. This includes, but not limited to, FTO and WIP automation machinery, Singles automation machinery, Blow Molding machinery and a variety of machine centers in the manufacturing department.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

1. Modify and maintain a variety of machines utilizing mechanical, electrical and troubleshooting skills.

2. Perform installations including but not limited to pumps, pipes and valves, conveyors, sensors, motors, packaging equipment, and Automated production equipment.

3. Interprets drawings, blueprints and schematics.

4. Function as a technical team member for departmental process improvement teams.

5. Assist in the orientation and training of employees on machine centers, such as Machine Operators 1 and 2, particularly with automated equipment.

6. Recommend procedural changes or additions and equipment changes or additions to improve processes and equipment performance.

7. Follow safety procedures and policies. Recommend new safety procedures or modification to existing procedures, as needed.

8. Familiar with emergency procedures and equipment necessary to safely and effectively respond to an emergency involving hazardous waste.

9. Installs, examines, replaces or repairs machine components

10. Troubleshoots, maintains and repairs industrial machinery.

11. Installs, maintains and calibrates industrial instruments, along with calibration of automated equipment.

12. Designs, diagnoses, troubleshoots and repairs issues to support manufacturing systems.

13. Utilizes a variety of measuring equipment and tools. Perform these tasks by possessing the skillset to utilize micrometers, calipers, depth micrometers and various tools and gauges.

14. Determine root cause of machine center faults and increase productivity through improvements.

15. In controlled environment suites, Automation Technician must maintain proper atmospheric conditions to ensure proper operation of equipment.

16. Ability to understand components of the machinery and obtain them by signing out of stock room.

17. Ability to lift 55 lbs. and perform service work and troubleshooting inside a machine and automation rooms.

18. Perform daily preventive maintenance on automated equipment. This entails all components of the machine, including die sets and knives.

19. Ability to work with various departments who support equipment, particularly the maintenance department during repairs, troubleshooting and dialing in of instruments.

20. Technical literacy for the reading of manuals, procedures, operating instructions, and troubleshooting guides, along with the detailed creation of troubleshooting guides and visual aids for machinery.

Education and Experience - Required

  • Associates in Engineering preferred
  • Extensive knowledge of packaging equipment and 3+yrs experience as a Machine Operator Level 2 preferred
  • Extensive understanding of measurements and gauging
  • Extensive mechanical understanding and ability to perform tasks
