Job Summary
The Sadler Lab is recruiting a laboratory technician to perform many of the lab's routine maintenance and administrative tasks, including managing the transgenic mouse colony and generating primary cell cultures. The technician will work with Dr. Sadler and other members of her laboratory to learn basic molecular biology techniques, cell culture, and mouse pain behavior testing approaches, and additional skills as needed.
Minimum Education and Experience
Associate degree with a minimum of two years hands on experience. An equivalent combination of education and experience is acceptable.

  • The ideal candidate will have rodent handling skills and knowledge of basic molecular (e.g., PCR) and cell biology (e.g., cell culture) techniques.
  • In addition to scientific skills, the ideal candidate will be an excellent verbal and written communicator, be very detail-oriented, and work well in a group made up of individuals.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Organize and maintain lab purchasing and inventory systems
  • Provide technical and research support for key laboratory personnel
  • Document experimental procedures and results
  • Maintain lab equipment and troubleshoot technical problems
  • Develop standard operating procedures for the lab
  • Manage the mouse colony used in research experiments
  • Participate in regular meetings with Dr. Sadler and other members of the lab
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Physical Demands and Working Conditions
Must be able to repeatedly reach overhead, carry up to 5 pounds, push and pull utility carts, and stand for long periods of time.
