SUMMARY/JOB PURPOSE:

The Sourcing Manager will be part of the Category Management and Sourcing team, within the Strategic Sourcing and Procurement (SS&P) department. This individual will support the Category Lead and be a point of contact from the team for the categories they are assigned and will be responsible for operations of their category and vendor pool. This individual will proactively identify opportunities, engage, and partner with business stakeholders and the Strategic Sourcing and Procurement (SS&P) team to maximize value and mitigate risk for key business initiatives and requirements.

SS&P department manages outsourcing leveraging a category-based approach. Categories are established based on consolidation of like-services and areas of spend spanning Exelixis enterprise from: Discovery, Development, General and Administrative, Information Technology, Commercial, and more. For each category, there will be Category Manager(s) assigned which reports to the Category Lead.

The Sourcing Manager will support the Development Category encompassing Clinical Labs, Clinical Pharmacology, Translational Research, Global Patient Safety, Regulatory Affairs, Medical Affairs, Clinical Development, and Biometrics. This role will be a key point of contact for these departments, supporting outsourcing needs to advance Exelixis R&D efforts. Example services may include consulting, medical science liaison, pharmacovigilance, quality assurance, central labs for clinical studies, local lab results integration services, PK and immunogenicity bioanalysis, biomarker assays, ADME studies, and toxicology.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Support category strategy development and management working with SS&P leadership and the business units.
  • Understand business priorities and challenges by building trusted and collaborative stakeholder relationships, thus, ensuring successful sourcing strategies.
  • Improves sourcing activities and identify opportunities for sourcing and/or savings initiatives by analyzing the company'sspending, current supplier partnerships, and new possibilities.
  • Gathers market intelligence and trends for the categories assigned. Analyzes information and communicates effectively to decision makers in the functional area of the business.
  • Support vendor evaluation activities (RFIs and RFPs) and selection process including facilitation of vendor capability presentations, software demonstrations, bid defense meetings and vendor award notifications.
  • Negotiates value improvements (cost, quality, service) within the course of a sourcing event for best decision-making/outcomes.
  • May negotiate contracts involving large dollar amounts.
  • Manage more complex, end-to-end SOW and associated contract development and execution workflow for low-risk contracts leveraging the Legal Contract Lifecycle Management (CLM) system.
  • Liaise with Exelixis' Legal department and Business Owners to ensure vendor contract terms and conditions adequately address all business needs and requirements and that contracts are executed timely.
  • Promotes and works towards balanced continuous (year-on-year) value improvement for all aspects of quality, service, and cost with assigned supply base.
  • Assist to maintain relationships with assigned Vendors. Collaborate with Strategic Supplier Relationship team(s) or business as appropriate to effectively manage the cost, schedule and performance aspects of major contracts and subcontracts.
  • Support or may act as SS&P lead on meetings with stakeholders and suppliers, especially in Supplier Relationship Management activities such as regularly scheduled Business Reviews.
  • As needed, facilitate and support vendor accrual and forecasting process.
  • Support department initiatives and continuous improvement efforts and assist in the development and maintenance of SS&P business processes.
  • As applicable per designated category, maintain audit inspectionreadiness.
  • Works closely with SS&P team members and assists where necessary.
  • Other duties and responsibilities, as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • No supervisory responsibilities.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS:

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in related discipline + seven (7) years of related experience; or,
  • Master's degree in related discipline + five (5) years of related experience; or,
  • Equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Professional certification a plus

Experience:

  • Experience in pharmaceutical and/or biotechnology industry(ies) required.
  • Experience in pharmaceutical and/or biotechnology R&D outsourcing, purchasing, supplier relationship management and/or procurement role(s) required.

Knowledge/Skills:

  • Working knowledge of outsourcing functions including overall sourcing process and methodologies. As applicable to designated categories of responsibility, should have thorough knowledge around unique aspects of sourcing for that category and be from relevant background.
  • Must have knowledge of pharmaceutical and/or biotechnology industry outsourcing financial processes and operations, including but not limited to budgeting, accruals, forecasting, financial analyses, financial reporting, capital expenditures, invoicing, payment terms, purchase requisitions/purchase orders, importation/exportation fees, taxes, currency exchange rates, and inflation.
  • General knowledge of business and financial principles relating to the broader organization.
  • Must have working knowledge of pharmaceutical and/or biotechnology industry regulations as applicable to category (e.g., FDA, MHRA, EMA, ICH GCP).
  • Must have knowledge on how to drive and support negotiation, change management, and stakeholder collaboration.
  • Excellent communication and project management skills with an ability to coordinate cross-functional teams to deliver strategic initiatives in a fluid and interactive environment.
  • Must possess a high degree of integrity, the ability to accept responsibility for projects, and a drive for results with an adherence to company standards and policies.
  • Applies acquired skills and experience along with continual learning to meet goals and objectives.
  • Ability to exercise professionalism when dealing with team members and stakeholders in both written and oral communication.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to utilize multiple data sources and provide both high level and detailed analysis.
  • Experience with Ariba, Agiloft or similar contract lifecycle management system, Jira Service Management preferred.

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across severalU.S. geographic markets, and we pay differently based on those defined markets. The base pay range for this positionis $108,000 - $153,500 annually. The base pay range may take into account the candidate's geographic region, which will adjust the pay depending on the specific work location. The base pay offered will take into account the candidate's geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, experience and internal equity, among other factors. In addition to the base salary, as part of our Total Rewards program, Exelixis offers comprehensive employee benefits package, including a 401k plan with generous company contributions, group medical, dental and vision coverage, life and disability insurance, and flexible spending accounts. Employees are also eligible for a discretionary annual bonus program, or if field sales staff, a sales-based incentive plan.
