Overview

The Lead Remote Sensing Technician acquires and processes geospatial data using aerial and ground based LIDAR, imagery, and GPS sensor systems. They work collaboratively in aerial missions with a captain in small aircraft/helicopters and independently in remote ground locations in survey vehicles. The roles primary duties involve acquisition of geospatial data, training the Remote Sensing Technician team, and developing/maintaining standard operating procedures for sensor systems.

Responsibilities

    Collect aerial and ground geospatial data using remote sensing technology.
  • Collaborate with pilots/survey crews in aerial missions; work solo in remote ground locations.
  • Process, quality-check, and document data daily.
  • Develop and implement RST training programs and sensor standard operating procedures.
  • Troubleshoot and install sensor systems.
  • Travel extensively by automobile/aircraft on a 16-day field rotation with 12 days off.
  • Ensure safe and secure use of company vehicles and equipment.


Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Proficient in GIS, mapping software, GNSS survey methods, and cloud-based technology.
  • Strong technical writing, communication, and independent problem-solving skills.
  • Comfortable with extensive small aircraft travel across North America.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Valid driver's license with clean record.
  • Ability to lift 50+ pounds.
  • Ability to work internationally.
  • Field data collection experience.
  • Database and spreadsheet proficiency.
  • Train/mentor colleagues.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 4-year degree in GIS, physical/biological/environmental science, engineering, or related field.
  • Aviation and/or ground survey background.
  • CPR and basic First Aid certification.

Additional Details:

  • Reports to the acquisition management team with primary locations in Oregon, Wisconsin, and Alaska.
  • Assigned an office but remote work considered; responsible for travel to a major airport or ACQ facility, with company-provided onward travel for field assignments.
  • Included in the company's hearing conservation program.
  • Requires passing a background check, driving record check, and drug screening.
  • Resumes accepted until positions are filled; immediate submissions encouraged.
