Job Description

Reporting to the Head of Digital Projects, the Digital Projects' Snow Fellow works closely with the both the Digital Projects team and University Archives team to perform large-scale digitization and description of the Edgar Snow collection. This Missouri Humanities Council grant funded position will run from June 2025 to December 2025. The Digital Projects Fellow is a part-time, non-benefit eligible, senior academic fellow with no supervisory responsibilities.

Position duties:

  • Trains on best practices in digitization and digitizes roughly 20% of the Edgar Snow collection for digital publication
  • Trains on best practices in metadata and describes roughly 10% of the Edgar Snow collection for digital publication
  • Trains on digital publication and publishes digital Snow objects in Digital Project's Islandora repository
  • Provides regular outreach and promotional contributions for grant reports and updates, often in the form of blog posts, social media posts, and internal messaging of grant progress, coordinating with the Head of Digital Projects, the Head of Outreach and Engagement, and the Metadata Librarian.
  • Professionally engages with best practices in digital collections, in order to create good user experience for library users and the UMKC community.
Qualifications

Minimum qualifications:

  • Must be a current graduate student or recent graduate (within 6 months) to apply
  • Adept at using computer and various applications; ability to learn new software and programs
  • Dependable, professional, and agile work philosophy
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills

Preferred qualifications:

  • Some previous experience in with digital collections and/or archives; internships, coursework, jobs, etc.
  • Some experience with any type of content management systems; internships, coursework, jobs, etc.
  • Comfortable with writing procedural and technical documentation
  • Demonstrably good teamwork in past professional environments
  • Clear and candid communicator
Anticipated Hiring Range

$20.00 per hour

Other Information

Work environment and schedule:

The weekly schedule for this fellow will be part-time (20 hours per week) and should have significant overlap with the hours of the Digital Projects team, which varies by person, Monday-Friday in the 8AM-6PM CST range. This position is hybrid and will begin with in-office duties (digitization), located in the Miller Nichols Library on the UMKC campus and will have the option to move to mostly remote during the metadata and digital publication phase; approximately September 2025 through January 2026.

The work environment consists of an individual workstation cube outfitted with standard office technology as well as an individual laptop setup for remote work.
