Overview
The Division of Enrollment Management at Rutgers University-Newark is responsible for attracting, admitting, and supporting students throughout their academic journey. It encompasses several key areas: One Stop Student Services (which includes Office of Financial Aid and Registrar's Office), Office of Graduate and Undergraduate Admissions, and the Center for Pre-College Programs.


  • One Stop Student Services offers a centralized point of contact for students seeking assistance with financial aid, registration, records, and other related matters

  • The Office of Financial Aid provides students with information and support related to financial aid, student accounts, and bill payment

  • The Registrar's Office maintains student academic records, handles registration, and provides services related to transcripts, grades, and diplomas

  • The Office of Graduate and Undergraduate Admissions works in collaboration with the schools/colleges at Rutgers University-Newark to recruit and yield new graduate and undergraduate students to the university

  • The Center for Pre-College Programs administers pre-college and career readiness pipeline programs designed to educate, inspire, and prepare students to be future-focused and 21st century ready

Posting Summary
Rutgers University- Newark (RU-N), an urban public research university and anchor institution, located in Newark, New Jersey, a city of promise is seeking a Director. Reporting to the Executive Director for Enrollment Services & Assistant Chancellor, Division of Enrollment Services & Experience , the Director of Financial Aid is responsible for overseeing the administration of all student financial aid programs at Rutgers University - Newark and is the key role in institutional efforts to maximize aid opportunities and minimize students' cost of attendance over the course of their academic career.

This position is responsible for and not limited to the following:

  • Serves as a critical liaison to the Rutgers-wide enrollment management team and participates in senior level financial aid group to recommend policy and procedures for all regions and also, as a group, to ensure that policy and procedural interpretations are consistent
  • Draws upon best practices to plan and implement traditional and innovative financial aid programs as well as coordinates with the enrollment management team to strategically allocate scholarship resources to achieve institutional enrollment and retention priorities
  • Consults with leadership to provide vision and direction for the university's enrollment management activities, while managing a high-volume financial aid operation
  • Interacts closely with the deans of the colleges, student services directors, as well as coordinates with Rutgers-wide initiatives

Work Arrangement
Consistent with the current application of Rutgers Policy 60.3.22, this position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement. The flexible work arrangements outlined in Rutgers Policy 60.3.22 are part of a pilot program that is effective September 1, 2022 through August 31, 2024. Therefore, there is no guarantee that this flexible work arrangement will continue beyond that date. Flexible work arrangements are not permanent, are subject to change or cancellation and contingent on the employee receiving approval in the FlexWork@RU Application System. Qualifications


Minimum Education and Experience
  • A Master's degree, minimum of five years' managerial experience in a college or university financial aid office, with supervisory qualifications, are required
Certifications/Licenses
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Strong financial and personnel management experience
  • Excellent interpersonal verbal and written communications skills with the ability to provide vision and motivation to staff. Proven track record of project completion
  • Commitment to providing information-rich and excellent student services
  • Experience with financial aid and other relevant database systems
  • Ability to build strong working relationships throughout the campus, outside, and university community is necessary
  • Thrives equally in an environment that both requires close collaborative relationships and teamwork, as well as self-direction and motivation
