Summary:
The Clinical Innovation Specialist reports to the Director Professional Practice Innovation/ Magnet. Under general supervision supports the TMH Nursing Philosophy model of care and the strategic initiatives of the Nursing Department. Supports the Director for Professional Practice Innovation/Magnet and other nurse leaders in planning designing implementing and evaluating programs that influence and enhance evidence-based knowledge practice and research shared governance the professional development of nurses and top performance on quality outcomes. Follows the ANA foundational documents and specialty standards including Nursing Administration and Professional Development Scope and Standards and the National Associations Clinical Nurse Specialist (NACSP) Statement on Clinical Nurse Specialist Practice and Education.

Responsibilities:
Supports the Director for Professional Practice Innovation and other nurse leaders in the development of the department*s strategic and quality plans and in establishing goals aligned with hospital priorities using outcome measurement and outcome evaluation methods that support nursing quality and process improvement.

Designs methods strategies and programs to sustain and spread innovation.

Leads nursing and multidisciplinary groups in implementing innovative patient care programs that address issues across the full continuum of care.

Facilitates process improvement in patient care through systematic assessment and evaluation of evidence-based practice.

Plans develops manages and evaluates staff development components of the Nursing Department*s educational programs and providing education through developing centralized curricula that meet the needs of professional nursing.

Provides expertise to nurse leaders staff and others as appropriate about; professional standards of excellence evidence-based knowledge practice and research and the use of technology as a tool to support innovation; supporting ongoing quality improvement and data management for the purpose of identifying patterns and trends and designing strategies to achieve top performance; contributing to new knowledge by developing implementing and/or supporting nursing research.

Supports change by; designing system level assessment methods and instruments that impact nursing practice and quality outcomes across multiple units of care; developing or influencing system-level policies that will affect innovative programs of care; contributing to the development of care standards evidence-based guidelines protocols and other structures.

Collaborates with Clinical Managers Assistant Clinical Managers and Advanced Practice Managers to ensure translation and utilization of professional standards at the unit level.

Guides nurse leaders and clinical nurses in quality improvement clinical research and the translation and utilization of evidence based practice.

Other information:

Licensure as Registered Nurse in the State of Rhode Island by the Rhode Island Board of Nursing or licensure as a Registered Nurse in accordance with the Nurse Licensure Compact agreement of the National Council of State Boards of Nursing.

BASIC KNOWLEDGE:

Baccalaureate Degree and Master*s Degree in Nursing with an academic focus on clinical practice nursing education or nursing administration required. Matriculated and committed to completion in Master*s (Nursing) program will be considered. Current license to practice in the state of Rhode Island required APRN license or advanced certification preferred.

Demonstrated knowledge and skills necessary to provide care to patients throughout the life span with consideration of aging processes human development stages and cultural patterns in each step of the care process.

EXPERIENCE:

Minimum of five years relevant clinical experience with demonstrated leadership and communication skills. Experience should exhibit an exceptional level of written and oral communication skill. The ability to conceptualize develop and effect quality nursing services with a commitment to continuous quality improvement is essential. Develops and maintains expertise in the field to address questions and provide strategic direction for research program development and quality innovation. The ability to see the potential in and use clinical information and decision support tools. The ability to understand and use statistical methods and metrics to set goals and measure clinical performance and quality outcomes.

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Sits stands and walks intermittently throughout the day. May be exposed to all patient elements. May be required to lift equipment.
