The primary function of the Office of Undergraduate Admissions is to identify, attract and enroll first year and transfer students with outstanding academic ability and potential. The department's efforts are commensurate with NC State's annual and long-term enrollment goals for the university. |
Essential Job Duties |
The Admissions Specialist is a key member of the Office of Undergraduate Admissions, which processes approximately 55,000 applications annually. In this role, you will be responsible for evaluating application files for completeness, ensuring data accuracy and making admission decision recommendations based on established guidelines. While transfer application processing is a key aspect of this role, you will also oversee document indexing, transfer credit evaluation and work closely with the Technology Support Specialist to maintain efficient workflows for both first-year and transfer application processes.
Key responsibilities:
- Manages administrative requirements for processing applications and academic records for first-year, transfer and international students.
- Serves as the primary trainer for full- and part-time staff in admissions processing, document handling and transfer credit evaluation.
- Tracks admissions cycles for military and veteran students and acts as a liaison to campus military programs.
- Supports students, families and counselors by addressing application inquiries.
- Supports the coordination and administration of transfer recruitment initiatives
- .Interpret and execute institutional policies and exercise independent judgment in the commitment of university resources.

Other Responsibilities |
In addition to the core responsibilities, you will get the opportunity to take on additional duties, for example you will represent the Office of Undergraduate Admissions by providing occasional front desk coverage and supporting in-person events. Some other additional opportunities will help to build on your skills, explore new areas, and gain a deeper understanding of the department's operations. |
Qualifications
Minimum Experience/Education |
High School Diploma or equivalency and one year of related office experience; or equivalent combination of training and experience. |
Other Required Qualifications |
- Excellent interpersonal skills and interest working on a team.
- Strong organization and time management skills to ensure meeting deadlines.
- Must be knowledgeable in the use of computerized management information systems.
- Demonstrated ability to make accurate and consistent interpretations of a broad variety of academic and/or administrative policies and procedures.
- Exercise good judgment and discretion particularly in matters relative to sensitive or confidential student records, personnel or organizational matters.

Preferred Qualifications |
- Background in a university setting, particularly in admissions or related areas.
- Familiarity working with customer relationship management (CRM) systems.
- Working knowledge of transfer credit evaluation processes.
