INDUSTRIAL FIREFIGHTER

PAY: $28.00 Hourly

LOCATION: Monterey County, CA

JOB DUTIES

Under direct supervision, trains for and participates in duties and related responsibilities of an emergency and/or hazardous nature in fire suppression and emergency operations in an industrial facility. Although firefighting and rescue work are the most difficult and responsible areas of activity, the major portion of time is spent drilling and studying methods, techniques, and organization, and in routine duties in the care and maintenance of customer property and equipment.

This is considered a safety sensitive position and is subject to the both, the Company's and the Client's Industrial Drug and Alcohol Testing Policy, which includes: pre-employment, post-accident, random, reasonable suspicion, return to duty and follow-up testing.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES:

  • Responds to fires with their company in a timely, safe and skilled manner, and participates in control of fires through hose and nozzle work, use of hand tools or a combination of these methods. Quickly follows established Company procedures when responding to emergencies as well as instructions given at the emergency scene. Correctly and promptly uses all relevant apparatus, tools, and equipment. Remains calm and poised in all emergency situations and gains rapid control over the problem at hand.

  • Administers first aid to injured parties at their appropriate level of training. Quickly analyzes situations where life safety is threatened and applies the correct treatment.

  • Conducts monthly fire protection checks (fire extinguishers, PIV's, interior valves)

  • Conducts daily Hot Work Permit issuance, and daily hot work permit audits

  • Safely operates Company vehicles, and equipment as directed.

  • Assists in the maintenance of fire and rescue apparatus, tools, and equipment keeping such apparatus, tools, and equipment in good operating and safe condition by competently and efficiently performing maintenance and testing tasks.

  • Keeps the company offices and related grounds, facilities, and supplies in a clean, orderly and useable condition.

  • Performs routine non-firefighting work tasks willingly and adequately such as working on Company records, time cards and other related paperwork.

  • Able to meet the physical requirements required to perform firefighting tasks.

  • Remains skilled in and properly applies modern fire suppression tactics, methods, and procedures at training drills and emergency Incidents.

  • Projects a positive attitude and image to the client as a fire service professional to meet the client's needs.

  • Works effectively in following policies and procedures.

Education and Experience:

  • Minimum Qualifications:

  • 18 years old

  • Valid Driver's License

  • Must possess or ability to obtain a Transportation Security Administration's "Transportation Workers Identification Credential (TWIC) card.

  • Physical Agility Fitness Test (Initial Hire and Annually)

  • Minimum Training Requirements:

  • Must possess a State of Illnios or National Registry EMT-B credential

  • Must possess CPR/AED credentials

  • Must possess NFPA 1001, Firefighter I/II credentials, (State/IFSAC/Pro-Board) OR NFPA 1081, Industrial Fire Brigade Member

  • REASONING ABILITY: Ability to comprehend, analyze, and interpret complex documents. Ability to solve problems involving several options in situations. Requires advanced analytical and quantitative skills.

  • COMPUTER SKILLS: Advanced computer software application (Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.) and Internet navigational skills. Strong interpersonal and organizational skills with ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.

Physical Demands:

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; talk or hear; and taste or smell.

  • The employee must occasionally lift or move up to 100 pounds.

  • Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:

  • The work is generally shift work consisting of 24 hours on duty and 48 hours off duty.

Travel:

  • Travel is usually limited to one time per year for live fire burns, 2-5 day duration.

Work Environment:

  • The employee will be exposed to noise levels ranging from moderate to very loud, from open areas to very cramped confined spaces.

  • The employee may be required to work at heights above ground and/or confined spaces within the plant premises.

  • The work environment will subject the employee to heavy traffic conditions both in responding to emergency calls and when attempting extrications at emergency scenes.
