The Job
The Top Fuel/Funny Car (TF/FC) Specialist reports to the Director of Engineering and is part of the Technical Services team. The TF/FC Specialist is responsible for technical inspection, data analysis, and rules compliance for the TF/FC categories at NHRA National events. Additional involvement across all NHRA classes is expected.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Serve as a technical inspector for Top Fuel and Funny Car at NHRA National events.
  • Capture and analyze performance data using data acquisition systems.
  • Generate detailed pre-event plans and post-event technical reports.
  • Collaborate with race teams, manufacturers, and NHRA Technical Department staff to:
    • Approve new products.
    • Develop technical and safety rules and requirements.
    • Collect, manage, and analyze performance and safety data.
  • Provide technical assistance to racers, teams, and manufacturers via phone and email.
  • Support other racing classes at National events as part of the Technical Inspection team.
MINIMUM SKILLS/EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
  • Engineering degree or equivalent technical experience is required.
  • Strong understanding of automotive systems and components.
  • Hands-on motorsports experience preferred but not required.
  • Proficiency in data acquisition and analysis systems.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Able to thrive both independently and in a team-oriented environment.
  • Must be able to perform effectively in high-pressure situations, including direct interaction with race teams during times of disagreement or dispute.
  • Must be detail oriented, organized, and able to work independently and efficiently to meet deadlines.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Must maintain a high quality in all work including accuracy and timeliness.
  • Excellent ability to communicate effectively with customers, coworkers, and all levels of management both in writing and verbally.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Ability to work at a computer as needed.
  • Ability to talk on the phone as needed.
  • Ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, push, pull, run, and/or climb stairs as required.
  • Must be able to lift a minimum of 50lbs.
  • Must be able to work outdoors in potentially extreme temperatures for 12-14+ hours as needed.
  • Willing and able to travel extensively (approximately 25 weekends per year).
  • Must have a valid driver's license and be insurable under NHRA insurance policy.
  • Must be flexible with meal and rest periods.
