Job Title: Grant Accountant (Temp to Perm)
Location: Harlem, NY (On-site, 5 days/week)
Pay Rate: $45-48/hour
Schedule: Full-time, Monday through Friday

Position Overview:

A Harlem-based nonprofit organization is seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Grant Accountant for a full-time, on-site role. This position will begin on a temporary basis with the intention of transitioning to permanent employment. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience managing government and private grants, with a strong understanding of Department of Labor (DOL) funding and familiarity with Fund-EZ accounting software.

In this role, the Grant Accountant will be responsible for financial oversight of a variety of contracts and grants, including federal, state, city, and private sources. Responsibilities include financial reporting, budget tracking, labor allocations, reconciliation, and maintaining compliance with grant guidelines. The position also involves supervising a junior accountant and working closely with internal teams and subrecipients.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Handle post-award financial functions, including monitoring budgets, analyzing expenses, preparing financial reports and invoices, and managing grant reconciliations and closeouts.

  • Oversee labor and cost allocations to ensure accurate reporting for funders.

  • Supervise and support an Accountant II, ensuring the accuracy of grant-related financial activities and adherence to guidelines.

  • Review subrecipient reimbursement requests and evaluate compliance with funding regulations and agreements.

  • Conduct desk and site audits for subrecipients, draft audit reports, and track corrective action implementation.

  • Assist in developing grant budgets in coordination with program and fundraising teams.

  • Submit financial reports and invoices to funders on schedule.

  • Monitor financial transactions and resolve discrepancies.

  • Ensure all grant activity complies with applicable local, state, and federal regulations, including those specific to DOL grants.

Qualifications:

  • Experience managing post-award functions for government and private grants in a nonprofit or similar environment.

  • Familiarity with DOL grant guidelines and strong working knowledge of Fund-EZ software is preferred.

  • Experience supervising accounting staff or overseeing team processes.

  • Solid understanding of grant compliance, reporting, and audit procedures.

  • Strong analytical and organizational skills, with attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (CPA or equivalent credential is a plus).

Additional Information:

  • This is a fully on-site role based in Harlem, NY (remote or hybrid options are not available).

  • The role is expected to transition from temporary to permanent, depending on performance and organizational needs.

  • the individual's skill sets, experience and training;
  • licensure and certification requirements;

With that said, as required by local law, Vaco by Highspring believes that the following salary range referenced above reasonably estimates the base compensation for an individual hired into this position in geographies that require salary range disclosure.
