Location: Remote/Virtual - Must Live and Work in Michigan

Occasional In-Person Work Required - Lansing, MI Office

Purpose: This position provides community engagement coordination to the Community Engagement Unit within the Community Education and Outreach Section of the Division of Toxicology and Response at the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services. The person in this position is responsible for providing program and/or project community engagement development and coordination support for activities as assigned by the unit manager. The Community Engagement Coordinator will play a critical role in building and maintaining connections with community members and communicating health protective information and resources in communities throughout Michigan.

• Develop and maintain strategic community engagement and communication plans for exposure assessments, health studies, other participatory projects, and other projects as assigned.
• Provide program and/or project community engagement development and coordination support for activities as assigned by the unit manager.
• Provide community involvement support to local health departments and residents.
• Participate in public meetings, community events, and telephone conversations for assigned projects or programs.
• Build capacity for community members and stakeholders to share knowledge and provide feedback.
• Identify and cultivate relationships with community members, groups, and stakeholders.
• Support efforts to recruit community members for participation in exposure assessments, health studies, focus groups, and other participatory projects assigned.
• Implement new and existing health education, community engagement, and outreach programs.
• Participate in program planning, development, implementation, and evaluation.
• Assist in identifying local resources for any special needs required by residents.
• Identify information or methods needed to improve community engagement and coordination.
• Support development of health education products.
• Provide additional support to the section and department on an as-needed basis.
• Perform general administrative duties as needed.
• Complete any training required by MDHHS or MPHI or as identified to continue professional development.
• Provide additional support to the Environmental Health Bureau as requested.
• Always represent the best interests of MDHHS and MPHI.
• General administrative duties as needed.

Education: Possession of a master's degree in public health, health communication, health services administration, community development, urban planning, population and health sciences, international studies, political science, health policy or a public health related field such as nursing, epidemiology, health education, health economics, dietetics/nutrition management, genetics, or speech and audiology; a master's degree in social work; master's degree in counseling; master's degree in education or special education with specialization in blind/visual disabilities; or a master's degree in public or business administration with a health care concentration.

* Flexibility to work evenings and weekends.

Work Environment and Physical Requirements:Physical requirements consistent with a standard office environment. Transport supplies to sites around the state on an occasional basis. Items and supplies can be bulky and weigh up to 40lbs. May go door-to-door to educate residents and may be exposed to cold or wet weather conditions.

Requires valid vehicle operator's license and travel within the State, including evenings, weekends, or occasional overnights. Less occasionally, travel may be required outside the State.

Travel: This position will require regular travel throughout the state of Michigan. Sometimes, including nights and weekends.

Responsibility for the Work of Others:No assigned responsibility.

Impact on Projects, Services, and Operations:This position has an impact on the organizational ability of dynamic community engagement responses to sites of environmental contamination.
