We are seeking a Career Services Graduate Intern who is culturally aware, equity-minded, and enthusiastic about supporting students' professional growth. This position is an excellent opportunity for individuals pursuing a career in higher education, student affairs, career counseling, or a related field. The intern will join our collaborative and supportive Career Advising team and work with a diverse group of graduate-level students across all Heinz College programs.

Your core responsibilities will include:

  • Provide inclusive, adaptable advising on career development topics such as resume and cover letter writing, interviewing, job and internship searching, and professional networking.

  • Design and deliver accessible career development workshops, both in person and virtually, that support students from a range of backgrounds, identities, and career interests.

  • Assist in the planning and implementation of events and programs focused on students' professional growth.

  • Partner with the Employer Relations team to understand recruitment strategies and employer engagement efforts.

  • Support incoming students by promoting events, managing communications, and fostering a welcoming and inclusive environment for all.

To be successful in this role, you should possess the following skills:

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to connect effectively with all students.

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.

  • Self-starter with a commitment to continuous learning and adaptability.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (especially Excel and PowerPoint).

  • Familiarity with or willingness to learn Handshake (or similar recruiting platforms).

  • Comfort with collecting and analyzing data to inform programming and decision-making.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED required; a Bachelor's degree is preferred.

  • Current enrollment in a graduate program in higher education, student affairs, counseling, or a related field is highly desirable.

  • Sponsorship : Applicants for this position must be currently legally authorized to work for CMU in the United States. CMU will not sponsor or take over the sponsorship of an employment visa for this opportunity. Carnegie Mellon is not a qualifying employer for the STEM OPT benefit: only the 12-month OPT may be used to work at Carnegie Mellon.

  • Work Posture: This position is operating with an on-campus/in-office presence 5 days a week.

  • This is a part-time (approximately 30 hours per week), non-exempt position based in Pittsburgh, PA.

  • Fixed Term: This is a fixed-term position with an estimated duration of 12 months.
