What You'll Do
Nuclear Enterprise Assurance (NEA) is a Nuclear Security Enterprise (NSE) counter subversion program, established to prevent, detect, and/or mitigate potential consequences of subversion to our nations nuclear deterrent.
- As an Assurance Engineer you will be providing subject matter expert (SME) support to Y-12 organizations and groups in the identification, evaluation, and resolution of Nuclear Enterprise Assurance (NEA) related risks and issues (adversarial based and/or caused), across the entirety of the Nuclear Weapon (NW) lifecycle (design to disposal). These adversarial based risks/issues may include
- risks that may impact function, reliability of a NW
- supply chain risks
- risks that may impact the ability to design, produce or test nuclear weapons (NW's)
- digital system risks (e.g., operational technology)
- risks that may impact NW cross cutting functions or programs (e.g., Operations Security, Information Security, Cyber Security, Procurement, Safety and Security).
- Support development, integration and execution of NEA policy, procedures and best practices both internally and externally.
- Performance of office or non-manual work directly related to the management or general business operations of the Company, and such primary duty includes the exercise of discretion and independent judgment denoted as follows: examples include - having the authority to formulate, affect, interpret, or implement management policies or operating practices; carrying out major assignments related to the operation of the Company's business; work that affects business operations of the Company to a major degree, and having the authority to commit the Company in matters having significant financial impact.
- Capable of applying independent judgment and discretion involving the comparison and evaluation of possible courses of conduct and making an independent choice free from immediate direction.
- Evaluate and support development and application of NEA related capabilities, tools/aids and metrics.
- Provide advisement and consultation to various technical and administrative personnel who interface with NEA and are pivotal to the programs success and longevity.
- Exhibit initiative and be able to work both independently and with high performing teams under limited supervision to complete tasks and milestones.
- Collaborate with the intelligence community (e.g., counterintelligence/field intelligence element) on activities related to identification of threats and vulnerabilities associated with the Site mission.
- Complete required training associated with NEA Assurance Engineer position and work with NEA management in planning and developing knowledge, skills and abilities needed to support the NEA program and assigned roles and responsibilities.
- Travel is expected and necessary to support external meetings, working groups, training, workshops, and conferences.
Minimum Job Requirements
- Bachelor's degree: Minimum 4 years of relevant experience. Typical experience ranging from 7 to 10 years.
- OR Master's degree: Minimum 3 years of relevant experience. Typical experience ranging from 7 to 10 years.

Preferred Job Requirements
This position's roles and responsibilities are very diverse in nature and team oriented in approach. The NEA team works together to support the NSE and Site mission. Items listed below compliment or reinforce desired skills and abilities to perform the wide variety of responsibilities, activities, and projects NEA supports.
- Bachelor's degree in a technical and/or business-related discipline, combined with at least 5 years of experience in a technical position or achievement of a degree that satisfies or is equivalent to 5 years of experience.
- Ability to understand technically complex systems, and their applications within manufacturing and production environments.
- Ability to understand Information and Operations security.
- Knowledge of both networked and non-networked Industrial Control Systems (ICS) and Operational Technology (OT) systems and equipment.
- Background in Systems Security Engineering (SSE) or Trusted Systems Engineering.
- Understanding of Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning processes and systems.
- Able to plan, review, and communicate technical processes; and analyze data for the purpose of generating written reports or improvements.
- Ability to evaluate problems, identify, and communicate resolutions.
- Able to clearly and effectively communicate through both oral and written word.
- Experience directly associated with NW components and processes.
- Experience with designing, developing, leading, and/or participating in subversion centered vulnerability and security-related assessments or exercises (e.g., Red, Purple or Blue Teaming).
- Application of tools used in discovering, identifying, or evaluating risk [e.g., failure mode and effects analysis (FMEA), root cause analysis, strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats (SWOT), Active Risk Register, and/or risk informed decision making (RIDM).
- Knowledge associated with information gathering, data analytics, and evaluation of collected data.
- Ability to coordinate, interact, network, and communicate with internal and external NEA subject matter experts and site managers, as well as technical weapons personnel, project managers, and various craft and floor workers.
- Experience with application of improvement-based tools and processes;for example,six sigma, kaizen, and process mapping.
- Receive and maintain DOE Q security clearance.
