JOB TITLE:

Associate General Counsel

JOB PURPOSE:

The Associate General Counsel will serve as a member of the Office of General Counsel and provide general legal support and guidance on a wide variety of civil issues pertinent to a state institution of higher education. This position will work on a broad range of legal matters, including but not limited to employment, civil rights, student affairs, contract and policy review, and other matters for academic and operational units as assigned by the General Counsel.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Draft, negotiate, and review University contracts.
  • Draft and review University regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Research and advise academic departments on broad areas of law, including but not limited to immigration, employment, discrimination and harassment, copyright and trademark, intellectual property, athletics, real estate, construction, public records, opening meetings, and higher education.
  • Provide proactive legal education and advice to University administrators, managers, and supervisors regarding compliance with various state and federal regulations.
  • Assist with coordinating and responding to requests pursuant to the Wyoming Public Records Act and the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).
  • Serve on University committees and perform other legal duties as assigned.
  • Efficiently organizing and allocating time to complete tasks and meet deadlines.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: J.D. from an ABA accredited law school
Other requirements:
  • Member in good standing of the Wyoming Bar or who will be admitted to the Wyoming Bar within twelve months of employment
  • Valid driver's license with a motor vehicle record (MVR) compliant with the University Vehicle Use Policy.

  • Ability to handle multiple matters simultaneously and prioritize assignments effectively.
  • Ability to work effectively and efficiently in a fast-paced and challenging environment
