Summary:

The Research Coordinator will assist with a research project investigating neurobiological mechanisms underlying the vulnerability to addiction. The incumbent will collect and analyze animal behavioral data, manage the mouse breeding colony, conduct animal surgery and tissue harvesting, as well as perform molecular biological analysis of brain tissue. Additionally, the incumbent will coordinate laboratory activities, prepare buffers and other laboratory reagents, and help manage the laboratory inventory. The Research Coordinator will assist with the production of manuscripts and conference presentations, and train undergraduates in basic laboratory techniques. Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Education and Experience:

Bachelor's Degree in Psychology or Neuroscience or related field (Completed by spring 2025) and at least two years of directly related research/laboratory experience working with mice. Education should include coursework in neuroscience, research methods, and statistics along with a laboratory course in one of the following areas: Neuroscience, Biology, or Chemistry. Experience with Western blotting, immunohistochemistry, histological techniques and/or animal behavioral testing. Demonstrated experience with statistical software, such as Prism. An equivalent combination of education and work experience may be considered.

Required Skills and abilities

* Demonstrated proficiency working with laboratory rodents.

* Demonstrated interpersonal skills along with the ability to effectively interact with a variety of individuals.

* Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office, or comparable software, including ability to create spreadsheets presentations.

* Strong analysis skills and ability to manage and analyze data.

* Strong project management, organizational, and planning skills.

* Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team to meet deadlines.

* Excellent oral and written communication skills.

* Ability to train and monitor the work of others.

* Ability to establish priorities and provide feedback and/or training.

* Ability to work nights and/or weekends, as necessary.

Preferred

* Ability to perform small animal surgery on mice.

* Master's Degree in Neuroscience. Experience traveling and representing an institution to external constituents (students, parents, schools, CBOs, etc.)
