Job Purpose
Assistant Director for Career Development and Experiential Learning is an integral member of the Career Development team supporting career education and experiential learning initiatives within the Career Center. This role primarily oversees designated experiential learning programs, with a focus on internships. Assistant Director for Career Development and Experiential Learning also provides career coaching to current students, from freshmen to graduate level, as well as recent alumni within one-year post-graduation. Additionally, the Assistant Director assists with content development to support career planning and preparation. Collaboration with campus partners is essential, and the role involves offering a variety of career readiness services to students through workshops, presentations, events, tabling, drop-in hours, and marketing efforts.
Minimum Requirements
Education: Bachelor's degree required. Master's degree in Student Affairs, Higher Education Administration, Student Development, or Counseling is preferred. Experience: Minimum of 2 years experience in career development, higher education or related student services. Experience in planning and assessing career or experiential learning programs is essential. Candidates with an equivalent combination of education and experience are encouraged to apply.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of career services, student development, experiential learning (with a primary focus on internships), and higher education practices required. Experience overseeing student-centered programming a must. Knowledge of experiential education, internship, co-op and similar programming a must. Strong understanding of individual and group counseling practices, with strict adherence to FERPA privacy regulations, a must. Ability to handle information and data and write reports preferred. Assessment and database experience is preferred. Ability to interpret career development assessment instruments is preferred. Strong presentation skills preferred.
Additional Comments Regarding Position
Must have the availability and willingness to assist Career Center staff with programs and events both on and off campus year-round. The position involves occasional evenings, weekends, and special project work as needed. May be required to travel overnight to in-state and out-of-state locations for professional conferences and meetings.

Engage with undergraduate and graduate students, as well as recent alumni (within one-year post-graduation) to guide them in making informed career decisions. Facilitate student learning and student success by assisting students to secure internships, assisting with job searches and/or graduate/professional school admission. Offer tips and strategies on application materials (resumes, cover letters, statements of purpose) and navigating the search process, while honing their interview and networking skills. Support students in exploring career direction and guiding them in the use and interpretation of various career assessments, such as FOCUS 2 Career. Address complex issues related to the transition to post-college life as related to career readiness and support students in enhancing their professional development skills. Provide these services through individual and occasional group career coaching appointments or group meetings.

Activity
Oversee several departmental experiential learning initiatives (internship and co-op) to assist students in securing appropriate opportunities that enhance their academic experience, increase student success and develop essential life and career skills. Facilitate the Career Center Internship Award ( CCIA) program, including marketing and recruiting students, overseeing the applicant selection process, providing one-on-one advising sessions, organizing group cohort meetings and professional development seminars, and processing award paperwork. Administer the Certificate Internship Program ( CIP) to support students who are not eligible to receive academic credit and offer a means for the College to officially recognize the associated internship. Manage the W.N. Looper Award (Washington, D.C. internship award), per the requirements set forth by the award founder, including marketing and recruiting qualified students, assisting with the application process, and processing award paperwork. Complete the annual federal state labor report, to ensure worker's compensation coverage with Budgeting and Payroll Services for the College. Support the Executive Director of the Career Center in efforts regarding legal matters associated with experiential learning as well as assessment associated with experiential learning.

Activity
Serve department as both a secondary lead for Career Coaching Drop-In Hours and a career readiness workshop/presentation facilitator and content developer. The position fills in as needed to support the Peer Career Advisors (PCA's). The position is on a rotation with the members of the Career Development Team to cover workshop/presentation requests from faculty, staff, and student organizations, as well as representing the department at family sessions during summer orientation, as a presenter. Collaborates within the department and across the campus to develop events and tabling initiatives to serve all student populations/all majors.

Assist Career Center with various office administrative tasks as needed including, but not limited to, student account management in Handshake, survey creation and implementation, data collection for assessment, annual report, and accreditation needs. Support Career Center sponsored events and strategic planning for department. Participates in relevant local, regional, and national organizations and professional associations, staff and team meetings and professional development activities. Serves as a representative of the Career Center to all departmental constituencies, as needed.
