We are seeking a skilled and experienced Paving Screw Operator to join our team. The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in the asphalt paving process, ensuring proper depth, width, and slope alignment while maintaining optimal communication with the paver operator and crew members. This position requires a strong focus on safety, precision, and teamwork in a fast-paced construction environment.

Key Responsibilities:



  • Set and adjust the screed to control the width and depth of asphalt layers.
  • Monitor asphalt flow and temperature to ensure consistent material distribution.
  • Communicate effectively with the paver operator to maintain accurate screed operation.
  • Ensure a smooth, even asphalt surface by adjusting the screed as needed.
  • Inspect equipment before, during, and after operation to identify maintenance needs.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area, adhering to safety protocols.


Qualifications:



  • Previous experience as a Paving Screwman or similar role in asphalt paving.
  • Strong understanding of asphalt paving techniques and equipment operation.
  • Ability to interpret project plans and specifications.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and focus on quality.
  • Ability to work in varying weather conditions and physically demanding environments.


Physical Requirements:




  • Work Environment: Outdoor asphalt paving and highway construction setting, including occasional night work, with exposure to uneven terrain, dust, dirt, and varying weather conditions including extreme heat, cold, and rain.
  • Proximity Hazards: Must be alert and able to work safely near construction equipment & public traffic
  • Climbing: Must have the physical capability to safely climb on and off of equipment that is greater than 6 feet off the ground on uneven terrain multiple times daily.
  • Balance: Including standing and walking on extremely slick and uneven surfaces while carrying.
  • Vision: 20/40 corrected vision to see moving safety hazards, moving equipment, vehicles, and obstructions.
  • Hearing: Corrected to hear verbal safety warnings and instructions.
  • Awkward positions: Getting to and from both sitting and kneeling on the ground.
  • Heavy lifting: Awkward parts and equipment up to 50 lbs. from floor to shoulders, and up to 100 lbs. with assistance.
