Creighton University in Omaha, NE is seeking to hire a detail-oriented and dedicated Research Associate with expertise in electrophysiology (endocochlear potential recording) or histology and mouse handling to support our research efforts. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in ensuring the smooth operation of our laboratory and the success of our research projects.

This is a grant funded position.

The lab is focusing on the development and regulation of the stria vascularis to investigate dysfunction in inner ear homeostasis. Our current projects focus on the regulation of the endolymph and identify how stress hormones influence endolymph regulation as well as the mechanism leading to neuronal loss in Meniere's disease. Results of this proposed work will advance our understanding of Meniere's disease and direct us toward the development of treatments to alleviate symptoms or prevent neuronal death.

Key Responsibilities:



  • Lab Maintenance: Prepare solutions, set up reactions. Maintain laboratory equipment.
  • Data Management: Maintain detailed and organized records of experimental data. Assist in data analysis and contribute to research reports.
  • Histology: Prepare tissue samples for histological analysis (tissue cryosection, immunostaining). Preparation of tissue for SEM. Fine dissection for organ or Corti whole mount and Stria culture
  • Electrophysiology: Auditory brainstem response (ABR) recording. Endocochlear potential and ion recording (potentially).
  • Collaboration: Work closely with researchers and other team members to achieve project objectives.



Qualifications:



  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant scientific field (e.g., biology, genetics, physiology, molecular biology) or equivalent required.
  • Excellent attention to detail and record-keeping skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities, and effective communication skills.
  • Desired: Experience in a research laboratory, expertise in fine dissection and histology preparation
  • Proficiency in mouse handling
  • Experience in immunostaining and confocal images acquisition and expertise in scRNA seq preparation and analyses
