Overview

The Distributed Generation (DG) team plays a critical role in helping the Company meet its clean energy targets and enabling our customers to add clean energy resources to the grid. The Senior Specialist provides support to both internal and external stakeholders, working to improve our existing processes and assisting customers through the NYS Interconnection process. The Senior Specialist must stay current with policy proceedings to understand how it impacts both long- and short-term distribution planning requirements.The Senior Specialist will oversee the end-to-end process for customers connecting DERs to the grid, identifying areas for improvement. The individual will provide data analytics, regulatory reports, and provide process support. The Senior Specialist will also support the DSP portfolio and the FERC2222 initiative, working with operational teams to allow DR/DER aggregators to bid into the NYISO market. The individual will demonstrate proactive problem solving, demonstrate the ability to deal effectively with stakeholders and Company upper management, and generate a high level of trust and confidence. The Senior Specialist will also monitor Federal, State and City proceedings related to Distributed Generation.

Responsibilities

Core Responsibilities
  • Assess customer and Company impacts of Distributed Generation in support of policy initiatives.
  • Understand the customers industries and businesses, the issues involved and how Distributed Generation relates to their businesses.
  • Identify area for improvement in the interconnection process.
  • Respond to customer inquiries regarding general process and project-specific questions.
  • Support the implementation of the FERC2222 tools for aggregators.
  • Engage with internal stakeholders, such as Engineering, Energy Services and others, to reduce inefficiencies in the process.
  • Monitor Federal, State and City proceedings related to Distributed Generation.
  • Perform other related tasks and assignments as required.

Qualifications

Required Education/Experience
  • Bachelor's Degree and 3 years of work experience
Preferred Education/Experience
  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science or Business
Relevant Work Experience
  • 3 years of work experience managing complex projects, required.
  • Excellent analytical skills and ability to understand and deal with technical issues as well as assess customer and Company economics associated with Distributed Generation, required.
  • Excellent writing, communication and presentation skills, required.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications required.
  • Project management experience, preferred.
  • Knowledge of the electric system and distributed generation, preferred.

Additional Physical Demands
  • The selected candidate will be assigned a System Emergency Assignment (i.e., an emergency response role) and will be expected to work non-business hours during emergencies, which may include nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Must be able and willing to travel within Company service territory, as needed.
  • Must be able and willing to occasionally travel to regulatory and industry meetings in state capital or other places.
