GENERAL SUMMARY:

Performs diagnostic ultrasound procedures under the supervision of a qualified physician. Uses ultrasound technology and techniques to assist in the diagnosis of patient medical problems for patients throughout the age continuum.

PRINCIPAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Maintains professional growth and development through seminars, workshops, and professional affiliations to keep abreast of latest trends in field of expertise.
  • Performs service excellence initiatives such as: AIDET, Key Words, Managing Up, 10/5 Rule and Service Recovery when applicable.
  • Performs ultrasound procedures to include abdominal, obstetrical, gynecological and small parts. *Uses sterile technique as required for interventional procedures.
  • Optimally demonstrates patient anatomy through proper positioning and transducer selection.
  • Competently operates ultrasound equipment and support system including PACS.
  • Utilizes department computer systems, files, PACS, etc. to review patient history and provide accurate documentation of studies.
  • Properly cares for and images patients of all ages: maintains patient confidentiality.
  • Coordinates exams within the department and with other departments to provide expedient and complete care; communicates with medical staff, coworkers, patients, families, and other hospital staff to assure quality patient care.
  • Handles telephone calls for scheduling, coordination, or questions with courtesy and accuracy.
  • Participates in the department's quality improvement plan as required.
  • Cleans disinfects and maintains equipment as necessary; notifies supervisor of equipment problems and calls appropriate vendors as needed.
  • Keeps work area properly supplied.
  • Performs other related projects and duties as assigned.



EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Graduate of an accredited diagnostic medical sonography program or equivalency required. A minimum of one (1) year experience required. Current American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) certification or candidacy for ARDMS registry required.

OTHER CREDENTIALS / CERTIFICATIONS:

Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
