Overview and Responsibilities

The Course Quality Specialist supports the continuous improvement of instructional quality and assessment practices across the college. This role leads the implementation and maintenance of the 5-year course review cycle, manages course-level assessment planning, and ensures alignment with institutional, accreditation, and grant compliance standards. In collaboration with faculty, deans, and instructional teams, the specialist enhances course content quality, leads syllabus development processes, and facilitates the use of curriculum systems such as Worldwide Instructional Design System (WIDS). The position plays a key role in aligning course outcomes, instructional methods, and assessment measures to support student success and academic excellence.

Responsibilities:

    Coordinate and maintain the 5-Year Course Review Cycle.
  • Collaborate with Deans, Associate Deans, and Course Guardians to facilitate the College-wide course curriculum development and review process.
  • Represent CVTC in the statewide WIDS User Group and advisory board.
  • Support faculty in developing and updating courses/program curriculum in WIDS (Worldwide Instructional Design System).
  • Track curriculum development progress using WIDS reporting features.
  • Facilitate the identification and documentation of common/key assessments (e.g., embedded exam questions, lab checklists, projects) across courses.
  • Ensure Course Outcome Summaries (COS) are accurate and updated in alignment with program and institutional standards.
  • Maintain and oversee the Course Assessment Plan for courses and the College's General Education Course Assessment Calendar.
  • Support curriculum development in grant-funded projects, ensuring alignment with compliance and WTCS standards.
  • Collaborate with faculty developers, instructional designers, and educational technologists to support high-quality, innovative course curriculum and instructional design.
  • Assist in applying the college's assessment framework by mapping program and course outcomes.
  • Serve as an active member of the College-wide Assessment Committee.
  • Support Technical Skill Attainment (TSA) initiatives and assist with meeting accreditation-related requirements for curriculum and assessment.
  • Provide training, resources, and support for faculty in curriculum development, assessment design, and instructional quality improvements.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong knowledge of curriculum development, assessment design, and learning outcome mapping.
  • Maintain familiarity with WIDS or similar curriculum systems, keeping up to date on changes and advancements.
  • Understanding of accreditation standards and assessment of best practices.
  • Ability to analyze curriculum and assessment data to support continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Excellent organizational, project management, and communication skills.
  • Commitment to collaboration, innovation, and continuous professional development.
  • Ability to support and train faculty in curriculum and assessment practices.

  • Advanced knowledge of and skills with technology including software programs for communication, data collection, and decision making including, but not limited to, Microsoft Office Outlook, Word, and Excel; as well as strong proficiency with technology tools related to curriculum management and educational technology.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Education, Curriculum and Instruction, Instructional Design, or related field required, master's preferred.
  • Minimum of three years of experience in curriculum development, instructional design, educational assessment, or a related field required.
  • Experience working in higher education preferred.
  • Experience with WIDS or similar curriculum system.
