Senior Manager, Marketing and Outreach
Job Summary ****Please note: This is 1 year contract that offers full benefits (medical, dental, vision) The UCSF Institute for Global Health Sciences (IGHS) is seeking a Senior Manager, Marketing and Outreach Senior Manager to create, develop, implement and manage comprehensive promotional marketing and supporting central UCSF strategies for the Institute's programs. As the global health landscape evolves, strategic marketing and targeted partnerships have become more critical than ever. This role will be instrumental in raising IGHS's profile-both within UCSF and among external stakeholders, including donors, research collaborators, and the broader global health community.
The need for data-driven marketing strategies and insights has become increasingly critical for strengthening IGHS's visibility and engagement with key stakeholders, and our long term financial sustainability. The Marketing and Outreach Senior Manager will work closely with leadership, communications, and other key constituents to define a business development strategy, and work with the Deputy Director to adapt it to a 2025 Strategic Plan. This role will be responsible for developing and implement strategies that showcase IGHS's research, education programs, and impact. This role requires a blend of analytical thinking, creative storytelling, and relationship-building to engage key audiences, expand supporting central UCSF opportunities, and enhance IGHS's visibility. The IGHS Marketing and Outreach Senior Manager will support the growth of IGHS through the following initiatives:
Strategic Outreach and Communicating Impact: * Develop and execute marketing strategies that highlight IGHS's mission, research, education programs, and strategic plan to develop effective communication strategies. These strategies will help raise awareness within the global health community in the Bay Area and beyond, ensuring that we connect with both internal stakeholders and external audiences, including donors that can expand our funding portfolio. * Work in partnership with the University Development and Alumni Relations Office to support central fundraising strategies. * Create compelling content, including briefing documents and one-pagers, to support IGHS's Centers and programs. * Ensure IGHS's messaging resonates with diverse audiences, including researchers, policymakers, and philanthropic supporters. * Optimize materials to attract new partners and researchers, aligning with IGHS's strategic goals.
Event Coordination and Promotional Strategies: * Plan and coordinate events that raise the profile of IGHS, with the goal of prioritizing science and collaboration as central to our mission. These events and campaigns, including the development and scheduling of IGHS Grand Rounds, will serve to promote the IGHS' science and innovation, strategic plan, research groups, and educational programs to the campus, medical center community, and the broader global health community. This direct engagement with various audiences is vital to fostering stronger relationships and increasing visibility. * Organize events focused on developing new networks who are invited in to IGHS to learn and grow with us. The IGHS Marketing and Outreach Senior Manager will have the support and ability to develop this network into a Leadership Council, if deemed appropriate. * Collaborate with faculty and program teams to showcase their research and educational programs through targeted events and campaigns.
Building Strategic Partnerships * Support the Executive Director's Office in cultivating relationships with corporate and philanthropic partners, particularly those new to global health funding. * Develop briefing materials, partnership profiles, and engagement strategies to strengthen IGHS's presence in the Bay Area and beyond, particularly among constituents who have not engaged with global health groups. * Identify and pursue new opportunities for supporting central UCSF fundraising strategies and collaboration that align with IGHS's mission.
Leveraging Data to Inform Strategy * Analyze funding trends and global health priorities to shape IGHS's business development strategies. * Conduct research to identify high-impact partnership and fundraising opportunities. * Use insights from data and audience research to refine outreach and engagement approaches.
Collaborating Across Teams * Work closely with the IGHS internal team members, University Development and Alumni Relations, and leadership groups to align messaging and outreach efforts. This role will supervise three IGHS positions (web designer, graphic designer, and communications specialist) * Ensure consistency in how IGHS's value and impact are communicated across different channels. * Contribute to UCSF's central strategy for engagement and storytelling efforts that highlight IGHS's contributions to global health. The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy. Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement. The salary range for this position is $94,400 - $201,800 (Annual Rate). Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training
- 5+ years directly relevant experience
- 5+ years working in a global health-related field
- Demonstrated experience in cultivating relationships with donors and constituents on behalf of an organization
- Demonstrated expertise in developing marketing content that drives an increase in sales/web traffic/other metrics and is tailored to diverse audiences
- Advanced knowledge of marketing principles, concepts, techniques and applications relevant to the field of promotion and advertising.
- Advanced skills in developing, designing and implementing creative promotional and advertising strategies.
- Advanced analytical, written, visual, interpersonal communication and political acumen skills to enable successful branding and outreach within UCSF and the global community
- Advanced analytical and research skills.
- Strong project management skills.
- Skill in people management and mentoring less experienced staff.
- Thorough knowledge of academic global health organizations or equivalent complex non-governmental agencies providing foreign assistance
- Advanced knowledge of communication principles, media, and marketing techniques.
- Strong interpersonal communication skills and advanced political acumen to successfully communicate on behalf of a highly visible organization with leaders of varying authority within the organization
Preferred Qualifications
- Demonstrated knowledge of marketing mediums and Global Health funding sources.
- Strong skills in event and media activities management.
- Thorough knowledge of IGHS education programs and research centers or equivalent programs at other prominent academic global health institutions
