The Financial Counseling Supervisor is responsible for the supervision of the day-to-day operations and staff, including the following:
Ensuring that all State and Federal regulations and requirements are met regarding acceptance into Affordable Care Act (ACA), Government Access Program (GAP), Medicaid and Indigent Care Program.
Provide staff training to ensure Certified Application Counselor (CAC) yearly certification and coordinate training for other VCUHS departments.
Managing the MCV Foundation and ADAP process and coordinating the Ryan White program.
Coordinating enhancements and daily operations of TransUnion and scanning processes.
Providing updates and training on Governmental Systems (DMAS Web Portal and CMS).
Participating in system upgrades/enhancements.
Assisting with Governmental/third party audits.
Managing Gateway and OCS operational needs.
Reviewing and approving payment arrangements made by staff and negotiating self-pay payments relating to services that exceed staff approval.
Reviewing monthly report of transplant case rates, reimbursement activities, and monthly Medicare time studies.
Preparing and managing daily, weekly and monthly financial counseling reporting.
Licensure, Certification, or Registration Requirements for Hire: Certified Application Counselor (CAC) required within 1 year of employment Certified Revenue Cycle Specialist-Institutional (CRCS-I) or Certified Patient Account Manager (CPAM) certification by the American Association of Healthcare Administrative Management (AAHAM) required within one year of employment
Licensure, Certification, or Registration Requirements for continued employment: Certified Application Counselor (CAC) required within one year of employment. Certified Revenue Cycle Specialist-Institutional (CRCS-I) or Certified Patient Account Manager (CPAM) certification by the American Association of Healthcare Administrative Management (AAHAM) required within one year of employment
Experience REQUIRED: Minimum of two (2) years of experience in health insurance and/or healthcare billing, collections, financial counseling or third party payor Minimum of one (1) year lead or supervisory experience Previous experience using a personal computer and various software applications to include Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.
Experience PREFERRED: Excellent analytical skills, written and verbal communication skills. Two (2) or more years of previous supervisory/management experience Two (2) years experience in State and Government Insurance programs
Education/training REQUIRED: High School Diploma or equivalent
Education/training PREFERRED: Associate Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Healthcare Administration or closely related field from an accredited program
Independent action(s) required: Supervises the daily operations within the section (including personnel) and communicating with third party auditors and/or representatives. Communicates with patients, co-workers, third party auditors or representatives.
Supervisory responsibilities (if applicable): Supervises the Indigent Care program. Supervises staff to include assisting with hiring and disciplinary actions, and preparing performance evaluations. Monitoring JCAHO and other State/Federal requirements and regulations to include Affordable Care Act (ACA), Government Access Program (GAP) and Medicaid.
Additional position requirements: Occasional weekends
