Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts (BCBSMA) seeks an Actuarial Consultant to join our Medical Economics team. The consultant in this role will be responsible for analyses to support a variety of cross-functional initiatives, with a focus on identifying and analyzing emerging drivers of health . This role provides the opportunity to work with a variety of areas within BCBSMA, including pricing, product development, financial planning, and forecasting. This candidate must be a creative thinker with the ability to drive proposed technical solutions to completion. This individual must be able to work collaboratively with both technical and non-technical staff including Underwriting, Product Development, Provider Contracting, Sales, and others across the company.

Your Day to Day

  • Work with a rich dataset and a robust well-established Enterprise Data Warehouse to identify emerging drivers of health care trend and cost, market pressures, and profitability by designing, compiling, and executing own analysis or reporting.

  • Design and/or interpret compelling data visualizations and assist with analytics aiming to lower cost and improve the quality of care provided to our members, making a clear recommendation on path forward with supporting rationale when appropriate.

  • Assist in the utilization of financial projections and actuarial analysis for well-defined projects, making recommendations when needed

  • Lead development of processes/analyses to determine financial performance or evaluate cost/benefit, working to ensure consistent representation across the entire business

  • May be responsible for leading actuarial projects relating to complex issues and trends, driving projects to completion, communicating results and facilitating implementation

We're Looking for:

  • Bachelor's degree required. Math, Business, Healthcare or related field strongly preferred

  • A minimum of 4 years' professional experience, preferably in healthcare or related industry

  • Associate of Society of Actuaries (ASA) or Fellow of Society of Actuaries (FSA) required, Member of American Academy of Actuaries (MAAA) preferred

  • Minimum of 4 years' experience in data analysis/extraction/manipulation using tools like SAS, SQL, R, Python, etc. strongly preferred

What You Bring:

  • Advanced technical and software application experience

  • Strong analytic skills with actuarial background

  • Customer service oriented with strong desire and ability to create "raving fans"

  • Creative problem solver, able to assess problems, develop creative solutions and see solutions to completion

  • Project planning and excellent time management skills to work on a variety of projects under specific time restraints and deadlines

  • Strong written and oral communication skills in a variety of settings (e.g. one-on-ones, presentations, group discussions.)

  • Adaptability to new and varied responsibilities

  • Collaborative/team-first perspective

LocationBoston Time TypeFull time Salary Range: $90,000.00 - $139,700.00

The job posting range is the lowest to highest salary we in good faith believe we would pay for this role at the time of this posting. We may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range, and the range may be modified in the future. An employee's pay position within the salary range will be based on several factors including, but limited to, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, performance, shift, travel requirements, sales or revenue-based metrics, and business or organizational needs and affordability.

This job is also eligible for variable pay.
