Overview:

We are seeking a High-Power Radiofrequency (RF) Technician who will focus on the continuing operation, maintenance, and upgrades of the Spallation Neutron Source Ion Source and accumulator Ring RF systems. This position resides in the RF Group in the Accelerator Systems section, Research Accelerator Division, Neutron Sciences Directorate at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL).

Major Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Maintain and operate the Ion Source and Ring RF systems to help ensure continued high reliability. This may include off-hours call-ins for repairs.
  • Assist the Ion Source and Ring RF engineering team with the design and installation of system upgrades.
  • Assist the Linac and RF Structures engineering teams with maintenance, operations, and upgrades as needed.

Basic Qualifications:

  • A HS diploma with a minimum of 4 years of experience as an electronics or electrical technician, or experience in a related field.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • An AS degree in electrical engineering, electronics, or a related discipline.
  • Prior US military experience with radar systems, electrical, or electronic systems.
  • Experience with RF amplifiers, mixers, oscillators, and transmission lines including the use of test equipment such as network analyzers, spectrum analyzers, oscilloscopes, and other hand-held meters.
  • Experience with high voltage systems.
  • Experience with vacuum-tube based RF equipment.

Special Requirements:

  • Work involves various physical requirements and working conditions. As such, a pre-hire physical will be required after offer.
  • Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
