Position title: Scenic Developer (Junior Specialist Rank) Salary range:
Commensurate with qualifications and experience. The posted UCSC Salary Scales set the minimum pay determined by rank and step at appointment. See the scale titled, Represented Specialist Series Fiscal Year. A salary that is higher than the published system-wide salary at the designated rank and step, are offered when necessary to meet competitive conditions. A reasonable estimate for this position is $55,000-$58,600. Percent time:
Full-time (100%) Anticipated start:
October 1, 2025. The degree must be in hand by September 30, 2025 for employment beginning on October 1, 2025 and beyond. Position duration:
Initial appointment will be for one year, with the possibility of reappointment. Should the hiring unit propose reappointment; a review to assess performance will be conducted. Reappointment is also contingent upon the availability of funding. Professor Fremont's research group develops algorithms and tools to improve the reliability of software, hardware, and cyber-physical systems like self-driving cars. We are seeking a software developer to work on infrastructure/DevOps supporting open-source development of the Scenic probabilistic programming language. Scenic is a domain-specific language based on Python used to model the environments of autonomous cyber-physical systems and generate testing or training data to help ensure their safety. We are working to transition Scenic from an academic tool with a modest user base to a self-sustaining open-source ecosystem. Towards this end, the developer will create infrastructure to support open-source development of Scenic and its broader adoption. In particular, the developer will be responsible for the following activities:
