POSITION SUMMARY:



  • The Senior Refrigeration Design Engineer - Controlled Environment Rooms reports to the Senior Divisional Director
  • Full-Time
  • Remote



As the Senior Refrigeration Design Engineer - Controlled Environment Rooms, you will be responsible for designing controlled environment rooms. This role is critical in leading the technical design, engineering, and development of temperature- and humidity-controlled spaces such as walk-in coolers, freezers, clean rooms, or climate-controlled food prep areas. The ideal candidate combines mechanical design expertise with a deep understanding of food safety, building codes, and HVAC/refrigeration systems.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:



  • Lead design and development of controlled environment rooms including layout, materials, airflow, insulation, and temperature control specifications.
  • Collaborate with project managers, sales teams, clients, and contractors to understand requirements and provide engineered solutions.
  • Generate CAD drawings, 3D models, technical specs, and submittal packages.
  • Evaluate and select materials and components (e.g., insulated panels, doors, refrigeration units, sensors).
  • Perform load calculations and work with refrigeration consultants and vendors on HVAC/R system sizing and integration.
  • Oversee fabrication reviews, installations, and troubleshooting on-site as needed.
  • Drive continuous improvements in energy efficiency, ergonomics, and system performance.
  • Mentor junior engineers and support cross-functional design initiatives.



COMPETENCIES:



  • Experience designing, installing and servicing controlled environment rooms
  • Ability to obtain a contractor's license in multiple states
  • Ability to obtain a refrigeration license in multiple states
  • Strong CAD skills with experience designing and creating construction drawings
  • Experience designing and programming control systems
  • Exceptional leadership skills, with the ability to inspire, motivate, and empower teams to achieve outstanding results.
  • Strong strategic thinking and problem-solving abilities, with a focus on driving innovation, creativity, and continuous improvement in project management practices.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively engage and influence stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
  • Advanced organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks, manage competing priorities, and navigate complex project environments with agility and resilience.
  • Proficiency in project management methodologies, tools, and techniques, with a proven track record of successful project delivery in diverse industries and contexts.



QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:



  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Project Management, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent military or practical experience.
  • 10 years of experience in a leadership position designing and installing controlled room environments, with a demonstrated track record of managing complex projects from initiation to completion.
  • Universal Refrigerant Handling Certification.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification or equivalent preferred.
  • Experience in industries such as construction, technology, healthcare, or finance is advantageous.
  • Proficiency in project management software and tools, such as Microsoft Project, Primavera, or Jira a plus.
  • Ability to travel as needed for project requirements.
  • Ability to successfully pass a background check post offer acceptance.

The range provided represents the national average pay range for this position and is considered to be a general guideline. Pay for this position will reflect the candidate's unique qualifications and may be higher or lower than the range provided based on employee geographic location. Additional factors considered in extending an offer include (but are not limited to) responsibilities of the job, education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity, alignment with market data, applicable bargaining agreement (if any), or other local, state, and federal law.

In addition to base salary, this role will be eligible for participation in TriMark's' benefits programs, including medical, dental, vision, 401K (with employer match), etc. Leadership positions may also qualify for participation in bonus programs commensurate with role and scope of responsibility.
