In order to be considered an applicant for this position you must meet the minimum qualifications as stated in this announcement. HVCC does not support Visas. Applicants must currently hold an unrestricted employment authorization to work in the United States and appointment will be contingent upon completion of a background check.

Qualifications for Employment:

Education Minimum Requirements: Bachelor's Degree and two (2) years of experience as an academic counselor/advisor at the postsecondary level. Master's Degree and experience preferred.

Pertinent Other: Previous experience and/or desire to engage in non-traditional advisement delivery systems (including on-line advisement) preferred.

Nature and Scope of Duties

The Advising Specialist reports to a Department Chair and/or their designee, and performs the following duties:

* Provides academic advisement to students in all departments as needed.

* Acquaints students with general educational requirements, College regulations, services and
* opportunities.

* Assists students as they make decisions related to career, program/major, and selection of courses.

* Counsels students regarding the consequences of course withdrawal, insufficient progress, change of major, withdrawal from institution.

* Assists students in evaluation or re-evaluation of progress toward established goals and educational plans.

* Refer students to other institutional resources and services as appropriate.

* Assists with the advisor training program and development of advising resources.

* Participates in and provides administrative support for other programs and projects designed to promote student retention.

* Maintains records and generates reports relevant to the operation and evaluation of programs/projects.

* Performs other related duties as assigned and provides additional services that supplement the advising program as needed.

This is a 12-month position with a salary of $44,000 with a Bachelor's degree and 2 years of experience as an academic counselor/advisor at the postsecondary level, or $47,000 with a Master's degree.
