Pay Range

$5,740 - $9,100 Monthly

Please note that the pay range information is a general guideline only. Many factors are taken into consideration when setting starting pay including education, experience, the external labor market, and internal equity.


Job Description

We have an opening for a Superconducting Quantum Information Researcher - Academic Graduate Appointee to support programmatic work within the Quantum Coherent Device Physics Group. You will work in a multidisciplinary team to design, develop, and improve superconducting quantum processors. This position is in the Condensed Matter Section within the Physical and Life Sciences Division.

This position requires full-time on-site presence due to the nature of the work.

You will

  • Perform room temperature electrical measurements and electrical annealing treatments of metal thin films and Josephson junctions.
  • Utilize Python and LabVIEW-based software to enhance and automate existing measurement capabilities.
  • Perform hardware modifications for electrical testing station, including circuit design and integration of source-measure units, lock-in amplifiers, arbitrary waveform generators, and digital multimeters.
  • Analyze data from current-voltage measurements, summarize results in meaningful and interpretable ways, and present these results to a multidisciplinary team of physicists and engineers.
  • Perform radio-frequency simulations of superconducting qubits using HFSS, COMSOL, and/or other finite-element solvers.
  • Assist in measuring quantum hardware, laboratory hardware installation and maintenance, including dilution refrigerator and related radio-frequency wiring.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in quantum engineering, physics, or related fields pertinent to role.
  • Experience performing electrical measurements with waveform generators.
  • Proficiency with Python, MATLAB, and/or LabVIEW for instrument control and data analysis.
  • Design experience using electromagnetic finite-element solvers to simulate radio-frequency behavior in prototype devices.
  • Sufficient verbal and written communication skills necessary to effectively collaborate in a multidisciplinary team environment, document analyses and prepare, present and explain technical information and publications.
  • Strong initiative, interpersonal skills, and creativity.

Qualifications We Desire

  • Master's degree in quantum engineering, physics, or related fields.
  • Previous research or internship experience relating to superconducting qubits or quantum information.
  • Familiarity with cryogenic hardware.
