Position Description

The Lyons School of Accounting in the Rawls College of Business at Texas Tech University invites applications for a full-time, 9-month, tenure-track Assistant/Associate Professor to begin in fall 2026.

For an Assistant Professor, the teaching load typically is three courses per year for the first three years and continues for three additional years following a satisfactory third-year review and a recommendation from the School Director. For an Associate Professor, the teaching load typically is four courses per year, with a one course reduction allowed for a scholar with two elite publications in the prior five years.

Salary and benefits are highly competitive. For an Assistant Professor, summer support (2/9 of 9-month salary) normally is guaranteed for the first three years and continues in subsequent years for productive scholars. We offer generous summer support for Associate Professors who are productive scholars. Funding is also available for data and conference travel.

About the College

The Rawls College of Business is AACSB accredited. It offers a BBA degree with majors in accounting, energy commerce, finance, information systems, marketing, management, and supply chain management. It has three MBA programs: Professional MBA, Online MBA, and the STEM MBA. It also offers MS degrees in accounting, data science, finance, human resource management, and marketing research & analytics. In addition, it offers a Ph.D. with concentrations in accounting, finance, information systems & quantitative science, management, and marketing. We have approximately 70 tenure track faculty and 60 non-tenure-track faculty. The college has approximately 5,500 undergraduate, 900 master's, and 60 doctoral students.

About the Department/School/Area

The Lyons School of Accounting is named after Terry Lyons, an alumnus whose family created a generous endowment to foster excellence in teaching, research, and service. The Lyons School employs 23 full-time faculty (seven Lecturers/Senior Lecturers, four Professors of Practice, and 12 tenured/tenure-track faculty) and nine doctoral students. Approximately 300 students enter the undergraduate accounting major each year, and approximately half of these students continue to earn their Master of Science in Accounting (MSA) degree.

Major/Essential Functions

In line with TTU's strategic priorities to engage and empower a dynamic student body, enable innovative research and creative activities, and transform lives and communities through outreach and engaged scholarship, applicants should have experience working with a breadth of student populations at the undergraduate and/or graduate levels within individual or across the areas of teaching, research/creative activity, and service.

As a faculty member in the Lyons School of Accounting, you will be expected to (1) contribute to the teaching mission of the School, including online teaching; (2) mentor graduate students and participate in doctoral education; (3) develop a record of peer-reviewed research; and (4) provide service to the school, college, university, accounting academy, and accounting profession.

Faculty Qualifications


  • A PhD in accounting (attained by the first day of employment) from an AACSB International accredited university
  • At least 18 graduate hours of accounting coursework
  • Research published in or targeted to elite or highly prestigious journals as defined by the Rawls College of Business journal list
  • A strong commitment to excellence in teaching evidenced by positive teaching evaluations, teaching awards, etc.

Preferred Qualifications

In addition to the required qualifications, individuals with the following preferred qualifications are strongly encouraged to apply:

  • Teaching experience in auditing or accounting information systems/data and analytics
  • An active CPA license
  • Two or more years of full-time professional experience in accounting or a related field
