Position Summary:

This position will be a part of the Landside Transportation Execution group. We are seeking an agile, service driven leader capable of understanding business requirements and delivering results through a large union workforce. The chosen candidate will be accountable for the timely movement of Carrier Haulage shipments and intermodal cost leadership within their assigned scope. This professional will be responsible for monitoring the overall health of the network and management of the respective vendors in accordance with the contractual service level agreements. A successful candidate will be able to quickly build and leverage a diverse network of internal/external stakeholders to exceed customer expectations and drive value for our team and organization.

Key responsibilities

  • Responsible for the daily management of the Carrier Haulage Product through the Los Angeles/Long Beach gateway
  • Oversee the dispatch operation for rail, truck and barge shipments for all Carrier Haulage Bills of Lading. Ensure timely delivery at the lowest cost
  • Day to day Management of a large group of ILWU union clerical staff in Los Angeles related to delivery execution, training and grievance resolution
  • Collaborate with senior leadership to develop and implement policies and procedures to ensure compliance with all regulatory/contractual requirements and industry standards
  • Provide accessible daily leadership to handle escalations, coaching, internal review sessions and external customer meetings
  • Develop priorities, manage team performance, and ensure alignment to clearly defined objectives and targets to deliver best in class customer experience
  • Actively pursues cost saving initiatives to drive down intermodal, positioning and storage costs
  • Ensure that the equipment turnaround is optimized with close focus on longstanding equipment
  • Ensure all new change initiatives are implemented within global standards and in adherence to contractual obligations.
  • Drive a culture of Operational Excellence within the Landside community, conduct regular performance dialogue in the main executing sites to detect existing and potential process flaws, determine corrective or preventive measures where indicated, and follow up to ensure processes have been improved and implemented
  • Build and maintain relationships with vendors, customers and staff to drive collaboration and achieve mutual goals
  • Lead performance management discussions with vendors through data driven discussions and regular business reviews

Job Specifications:

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Five or more years transportation experience required preferably in operational logistics.

Technical Skills and Competencies:

  • Proven leadership skills and ability to create followership.

  • Strong execution mindset
  • Strong understanding of transportation industry and in particular internal shipment cost drivers
  • Articulate individual who can relate to people at all levels of an organization and possesses excellent communication skills

Pay Range:

$130,000-$140,000*

*The above stated pay range is the anticipated starting salary range for the position. The Company may adjust this range in light of prevailing market conditions and other factors such as location. The Company will work directly with the selected candidate(s) on the final starting salary in accordance with all applicable laws.
