Job Summary
Direct and organize automotive shop operations and personnel, including outside providers, to maintain the MPS fleet (vehicles, generators, etc.) in a constant state of readiness. Wage $65,491 - $86,955 (12-months)

THE SELECTION PROCESS: will be job related and will consist of one or more of the following: education and experience evaluation; written, oral or performance tests; or other assessment methods. The Office of Human Resources reserves the right to call only the most qualified candidates to oral and performance examinations. Oral examinations may include written exercises. Selection process component weights will be determined by further analysis of the job.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Must have a working knowledge of and skill in navigating a Computerized Maintenance Management Software system (preferably AssetWORKS)
- Ability to effectively direct auto mechanics and others in various shop operations.
- Knowledge of and skill in performing diagnosis, adjustment, repair and replacement of various vehicle systems, engine tune-ups and preventive maintenance, minor body repair work and touch-up painting, welding and maintenance on site-based generators and developing associated inspection reports.
- Ability to read and interpret various service manuals, parts catalogs, schematics and procedures.
- Must be able to complete records and forms.
- Ability to assist in developing estimates for projects related to the position.
- Must display quality work through accuracy and attention to detail.
- Ability to work effectively and productively as a member of a team.
- Effective written, verbal, and communication skills.
- The ability to gather data, compile information and prepare field reports as required.

Working Environment:
- Ability to work mandatory overtime hours as required, whether given advanced notice, or called-in to perform emergency duties
- Provides own hand tools of the trade
- Exposure to dust, dirt, general construction debris, hazardous materials, etc. that may require the use of respiratory protection.
- Exposure to loud noises that may require the use of hearing protection devices.
- Exposure to confined spaces that may require special rigging, harnessing, etc.
- Work at heights on various types of support equipment that may require special harnessing and fall protection equipment.
- Roof work that may require special fall protection equipment, such as personal fall arrest systems (PFAS).
- Essential physical requirements, such as climbing, standing, stooping, crawling, etc.
Physical Demands:
- Ability to climb and work at heights at or above 70 feet in all weather conditions
- Ability to lift objects weighing up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to move objects weighing up to 100 lbs.
- Exposure to work environments as previously indicate
Qualifications
Education Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent (GED).
Experience Requirements:
- Minimum of three (3) years experience in the maintenance and repair of vehicles and heavy equipment.
- Minimum of one (1) year of experience in directing others in the repair of vehicles and heavy equipment.
- Experience in AssetWORKS AiM Work Desk, AssetWORKS GPS and AssetWORKS Fleet Maintenance Module.
- Experience in the repair of specialized heavy equipment is desirable.
Certifications and Licensing Requirements:
- Valid Commercial Driver's License, Class A (CDL) with air brake endorsement.
- Valid driver's license and availability of a properly insured personal automobile for use on the job at time of and throughout employment (car allowance provided).
- Completion of Baseline Medical Surveillance Exam; Respiratory Protection Training; Respiratory Fit Testing and Hearing Conservation Training within the first month of appointment. Note 1&2

Note 1 Training and/or testing will be provided by MPS. Employees must obtain the certification within the time allotted. Note 2 Training modules assigned on the MPS Learning Management System (LMS).
Responsibilities
- Direct and organize automotive shop operations and personnel as required to maintain the MPS fleet of approx. (197) vehicles, (17) Trailers and (44) emergency generators in a constant state of readiness.
- Maintain and organize vehicle and generator records, titles, maintenance reports, repair records, etc. and record/document work performed on each vehicle and piece of equipment.
- Work with outside service providers to repair and service vehicles, generators and other shop equipment.
- Perform emergency service calls and repairs, some being after normal working hours.
- Develop estimates related to the position.
- Work independently with minimal assistance solving automotive and generator issues.
- Navigate and monitor AssetWORKS AiM vehicle related work orders, various data, budget targets, etc.
- Operates and maintains equipment related to trade.
- Perform diagnosis, adjustment, repair and replacement of various vehicle operating systems and components
- Perform complete engine tune-ups, preventative maintenance work, minor vehicle body repair work and touch-up painting, and weld as necessary.
- Perform maintenance on site-based generators and prepare inspection reports.
- Test drive vehicles, as required, to diagnose issues and verify drivability. Report any malfunctions of vehicles and equipment to prolong the life of the equipment, ensure continuity of safe operation, and lessen the likelihood of breakdowns.
- Adjust vehicle options to make fleet ready for respective season; add/remove plows, salters, etc.
- Perform safety inspections of automotive shops.
- Manage 3rd party inspections and reports of automotive shop hoists and lifts.
- Manage storage of automotive supplies including petroleum products.
- Operate and maintain hand and power tools associated with trade.
- Actively support the MPS strategic plan.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
