The Senior Estimator provides preconstruction and estimating leadership and expertise to industrial projects and project teams. This position's primary duties include creating conceptual cost models, hard bid or design-build estimate proposals, procuring subcontractors and vendors, and supporting Ryan preconstruction and department goals.

Some things you can expect to do:

  • Ensure team members understand what is expected of them and hold them accountable for performance, provide regular feedback and have development conversations, delegate appropriate tasks and provide timely and meaningful recognition.
  • Assume primary responsibility for completing industrial cost proposals in a thorough, competitive, and quality driven manner for industrial projects.
  • Support the development, architectural, and construction team with preconstruction expertise including estimating, value design, costs, project schedule, procurement, project pursuits, and procurement.
  • Maintain accurate historical cost data and current market information in the Ryan cost history system.
  • Review and provide feedback on project estimates created by the project managers. Provide direction for understanding project scope, market pricing, and available resources.
  • Assist clients and developers with conceptual budgets. Capable of cost modeling using Uniformat / system costs.
  • Prepare detailed proposal estimates including subcontractor quotes, self-perform work, general conditions, and all aspects of Warehouse and Distribution sector projects.
  • Solicit, analyze, and negotiate subcontractor quotes.
  • Work with other team members, often in other geographic locations, to complete project proposals in a thorough and timely fashion.
  • Build upon Ryan subcontractor and vendor resource database.
  • Analyze market conditions for optimal competitive advantage.
  • Prepare scope documents for design-build subcontractors.

You will really stand out if you:

  • Four-year college degree in construction management or construction engineering.
  • Minimum of 7-10 years' experience, with 3+ years in estimating or preconstruction capacity.
  • Estimating background with experience in conceptual estimating.
  • Strong experience in industrial construction projects required, cold storage/distribution experience preferred.
  • Thorough understanding of the design/build delivery process.
  • Thorough understanding of value design and budget control during the planning and design phases.
  • Thorough knowledge of the architectural, engineering, and construction processes.
  • Thorough understanding of cold storage and distribution planning/ construction .
  • Maintains balance of cost, risk, and quality.
  • Effectively prioritizes and balances big picture goals with immediate responsibilities.
  • Thorough understanding of the estimating stages, process, and costs.
  • Thorough and analytical.
  • Able to travel as required for preconstruction activities.
  • Values and maintains internal and external relationships at all levels.
  • Displays good judgment and sound reasoning to reach effective decisions.
  • Strives to "do the right thing" in all situations.
  • Knowledge and experience in direct vendor / manufacturer procurement a plus.
