Job Summary

The Senior QA Specialist works independently with minimal guidance to plan, develop and implement Quality Assurance/Quality Control services with internal and external contacts on PMC and RRE retrofit projects and activities. Collaborates with Construction, Engineering, Supply Chain, Development, Projects and O&M as required, and in some cases directs other quality assurance staff to perform and complete quality tasks. Solves complex problems with minimal guidance and acts as a resource to less experienced colleagues.

This position supports the group's responsibilities including establishment of quality requirements for contracts, vendor / contractor prequalification, auditing and surveillance activities, oversight of outside QA inspection firms, and oversight of personnel in performing quality functions and or activities such as auditing and inspections of suppliers and construction work on PMC and RRE retrofit project activities.

Responsibilities

Work independently with minimal guidance with internal and external contacts to provide Quality Assurance and Quality Control services on PMC Projects and Activities and in some cases directs other Quality Assurance staff to perform and complete Quality tasks.

  • Verifies equipment suppliers, contractors, vendors, etc., are performing work in accordance with the PMC Quality Assurance Program, industry standards, codes and contractual requirements and specifications. This work is accomplished by performing surveillance / audits at supplier facilities and, or at the PMC construction sites.
  • Leads / performs auditing services and assessments of equipment suppliers, contractors, vendors, etc., quality programs including manufacturing, shop fabrication, field fabrication and construction activities. In addition will provide auditing of internal PMC processes.
  • Develop and or leads development of Quality Assurance procedures and documents to support the Quality Assurance Program
  • Responsible for providing input for the continued development of the Duke Energy PMC Quality Assurance Programs.
  • Writes detailed reports of inspections and audits performed at supplier facilities and construction sites.
  • Reviews suppliers, contractors, vendors, etc., Quality Programs for adequacy, completeness, and applicability to quality work to be performed.
  • Evaluate NDE procedures and methodologies and execution of NDE procedures, and review / verify interpretation of NDE results, and provide oversight to assure supplier / site contract QA / QC is performed properly and in accordance with requirements. Evaluate Code requirements and applications as needed.
Basic/Required Qualifications
  • Associates Degree
  • 6 years related work experience
  • In lieu of Associates degree and 6 years experience, High School/GED and 10 years related work experience
Desired Qualifications
  • Bachelors degree in Engineering
  • 6 years of quality assurance related experience in engineering, operations, or construction of power plants (gas, solar, BESS, hydro), supplier oversight, or geotechnical projects.
  • Two or more of the following certifications: BS Engineering , ASQ Certified Quality Auditor, Certified Supplier Quality Professional, ISO 9001 Lead Auditor, AMPP Protective Coatings Specialist, ACI Concrete Field Testing Grade 1, NICET Level I Soils or ICC Soils Special Inspector, Certified Professional in Erosion & Sediment Control, Geosynthetic Cert. Inst. - Inspectors Cert. Program
Additional Preferred Qualifications
  • Quality management experience (quality tools)
  • Knowledge of relevant industry Codes and Standards
  • Large construction project experience
  • Materials testing experience (soil, concrete, geosynthetics, NDE, coatings)
  • Auditor experience
  • Non-conformance report experience
  • Shop inspection / Supplier oversight experience
  • Data analysis / trending and reporting
  • Problem Solving (Lean six sigma, casual analysis, etc.)
  • QA/QC experience
  • Materials testing certifications (soil, concrete, geosynthetics, NDE, welding, coatings)
  • Ability to coordinate QA/QC activities on large construction projects
  • Experience with civil, mechanical, boilers, welding, NDE, structural steel and bolting, concrete, piping, and coatings.
Working Conditions
  • Hybrid Mobility Classification - Work will be performed from both remote and onsite locations after the onboarding period. However, hybrid employees should live within a reasonable daily commute to a Duke Energy facility.
  • The Senior QA Specialist will also at times work in a power plant site environment and includes exposure to heat, cold, noise, dust and humidity.
  • The job can require climbing ladders, walking on steep slopes, and working on uneven surfaces.
  • Significant travel (> 50%) is to be expected, including both automobile and air travel to the various locations and facilities.
  • Expected to work overtime as needed in order to accommodate seasonal construction schedules.
