Museum Shop Sales Associate, Full Time (Non-exempt)

POSITION PURPOSE:

Promotes and represents the Denver Art Museum and the Museum Shop by providing high-quality customer service to all visitors while emulating the Denver Art Museum's core values. This position supports the daily operations of the Museum Shop by interacting with and assisting visitors, actively selling and processing transactions, and replenishing merchandise.

This position reports to the Assistant Manager of Shop Employee Experience.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:



  • Customer Service & Sales

    • Greet and engage customers in a friendly, professional manner
    • Understand customer needs and recommend products accordingly
    • Drive sales through product knowledge, suggestive selling, and upselling


  • Store Operations

    • Complete all POS transactions in a professional and friendly manner
    • Reconciles POS register at the end of the shift (counting monies and entering data)
    • Maintains all Shop departments and areas in a neat and organized manner, and adheres to all cleaning protocols set in place for the museum
    • Acts as a resource for questions relating to the general museum, exhibitions, the museum complex, the surrounding area, and attractions


  • Product Knowledge & Merchandising

    • Stays informed on current promotions, sales, and product features/benefits
    • Actively promotes membership sales and membership renewals
    • Restocks products throughout the day and at closing
    • Communicates product needs to the management team or to the shop lead.
    • Ensures merchandise is tagged, priced, and presented neatly, including new merchandise, on the sales floor


  • Team Collaboration

    • Communicate effectively with coworkers and management
    • Participate in team meetings, training, and store events
    • Support peers with tasks and contribute to a positive store culture
    • Attends museum staff meetings (Huddle and All-staff) as well as attend on-going employee enrichments/training programs and customer service trainings
    • Consistent usage of the Racial Equity Lens in day-to-day operations
    • Yearly goal setting to support Racial Equity Roadmap initiatives



Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS:




  • Previous retail experience (2+ years preferred)
  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Ability to provide exceptional customer service
  • Comfortable with sales techniques such as suggestive selling and product knowledge
  • Basic math skills for handling cash and inventory
  • Ability to use positive language
  • Positive attitude and professional demeanor
  • People-oriented with a focus on inclusivity
  • Dependable, punctual, and team-oriented
  • Detail-oriented with good organizational skills
  • Ability to multitask and work in a fast-paced environment
  • Adaptable to a variety of situations

WORKING ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES:




  • Required to work evening hours and weekends or holidays where necessary; must be flexible to change hours for exhibitions and events as needed
  • Environment: temperature-controlled
  • Activities:

    • Ability to stand for long periods of time (entire shift)
    • Capable of lifting/moving up to 30-40 lbs
    • Able to bend, reach, and climb ladders as needed for merchandising and stocking





POSITION TYPE: This position is covered by a Collective Bargaining Agreement with AFSCME-CWU.

PAY: The hiring hourly range for the position is $19.00-$23.75 based on experience. A .50 language differential is available for hours worked for candidates who have Spanish speaking proficiency.
