Job Description

Pay: $17/hour

Work Schedule: Part-Time; 20 hours/week

This position is eligible for Paid Sick and Safe Time (PSST) under the Healthy Families and Workplaces Act. All employees may also make pre-tax or post-tax (Roth) contributions to our retirement plan - must be 18 years of age to participate.

JOB SUMMARY:

The Personal Care Worker will increase the quality of life through promotion of independence within the home by assisting with light homemaking, non-medical personal care, home management, and emotional support. The Personal Care Worker will perform direct care services to disabled and or elderly individuals in the community or in their home.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Duties of a personal care worker may include:



  • Observation and maintenance of the home environment and ensures the safety and security of the client.
  • Assistance with household chores including cooking and meal preparation, cleaning, and laundry.
  • Assistance in completing activities such as shopping, and appointments outside the home.
  • Companionship including, but not limited to, social interaction, conversation, emotional reassurance, encouragement of reading, writing and activities that stimulate the mind.
  • Assistance with activities of daily living, personal care and any other assignments as included in the service plan.
  • Completion of appropriate service notes regarding service provision for each visit. Documentation shall contain services provided, date and time in and out, and a confirmation that care was provided.


Client Care:



  • The Personal Care Worker will plan with the clients and their families on how best to carry out the required tasks and functions, organize the tasks within the care plan or Individual Support Plan (ISP) and perform the required tasks. The incumbent will keep appropriate records, assist with activities, meals, and snacks, and communicate with the Supervisor regarding medical concerns and any changes that must be made to the ISP or Care plan. The incumbent will recognize the importance of a clean, healthy environment in performing household tasks; take measures to keep the home in a safe condition and respect the confidentiality of the client.


Service Delivery:



  • The Personal Care Worker will provide services that are listed in the ISP or Care Plan. The key services delivered are:

    • Homemaker: Homemaker Services are general household activities provided in the home of the individual to maintain a healthy and safe home environment when the person ordinarily responsible for these activities is absent or unable to manage these tasks. Some of these services may include the following: Routine light housecleaning, such as dusting, vacuuming, mopping, and cleaning bathroom and kitchen areas.

      • Meal preparation
      • Dishwashing
      • Bed making
      • Laundry
      • Shopping






Personal Care:



  • Personal Supports: Personal supports may include assistance with bathing and personal hygiene, eating, dressing, and grooming, bowel and bladder care, menstrual care, transferring, basic first aid, administering medications, operating, and maintaining medical equipment for a child who cannot perform these functions alone due to the developmental disabilities or medical condition.
  • Household Services: Assistance in performing housekeeping tasks which, due to the needs of the child with a developmental disability, are above and beyond the task generally required in a home and/or increase the parent(s) ability to provide care needed by the child with a disability.


Respite Care:



  • Respite care is a service provided to a participant who is unable to care for themselves on a short-term basis due to the absence or the need for relief of the parent(s)/family care provider, who are normally providing the care. Respite Care is in the participant's residence and/or may be provided in the incumbent's home.


Client/Program Tracking and Reporting:



  • The Provider must complete all necessary client specific documentation, e.g., timesheets, log notes, ISP tracking, and incident reports daily. It is critical that the incumbent maintain complete and accurate records and statistical data as required for all clients and programs. The incumbent is responsible for providing services specified in the Individual's Plan and assist them with working towards their goals and documenting the progress. All required paperwork must be turned in according to their designated due dates.


Training:



  • A Personal Care Worker shall have completed agency training or have verified experience in the provision of home care tasks to clients and passed a competency evaluation. The Personal Care Worker is required to complete all annual training as assigned by the company. This is a state requirement related to the company's license and must be completed within the due dates assigned. The incumbent will be responsible for ensuring there is always compliance within this area.


Relationship Management:



  • The Provider will deal effectively and calmly with non-routine situations following accepted guidelines and perform other duties as required by the program supervisor. The provider will follow all guidelines set forth by state regulations and will ensure that quality communication occurs between them, the client, and Goodwill Staff.


QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:



  • A High School Diploma or equivalent is preferred.


Experience:



  • Experience in a related field or equivalent combination of training and experience in a social service, counseling, or rehabilitation setting, providing direct services to persons with physical, emotional and/or developmental disabilities or experience with the elderly population.
  • Geriatric/IDD, medical and/or home care experience is a plus.


Other:



  • The incumbent must be able to write clear, concise, and accurate reports and plans, submit them in a timely manner and possess excellent time management skills.
  • The incumbent must have a working knowledge of community resources, train, and be creative in motivating clients toward individual success.
  • The incumbent must also conduct self in a professional manner and maintain a professional appearance that enhances the firm's reputation.
  • It is preferred that the incumbent have the ability to interact and work cooperatively and effectively with clients, coworkers, supervisors, family members, and community referral sources.
  • The incumbent must be able to perform general homemaking skills, demonstrate customer service skills, make common sense decisions, and perform duties as required.
  • The incumbent must also communicate effectively, conduct self in a professional manner and maintain a professional appearance that enhances the firm's reputation.
  • The incumbent must respect the confidentiality of each client.
  • The incumbent will be required and must have the ability to drive for company business*.


*Per auto vehicle insurance carrier requirements: For applicants/employees to qualify for inclusion on the Goodwill driver insurance schedule, for purpose of driving Goodwill fleet vehicles, or for purpose of receiving company mileage reimbursement they must be at least:



  • 19 years of age (not engaged in passenger transportation),
  • 25 - 70 years of age for all passenger transportation services,
  • 21 years of age for CDL.


Applicants/employee will be required to undergo a Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) check and background check; applicants/employees must disclose all moving traffic violations or vehicle crashes (within the last five (5) years)(Note: not all violations are a disqualification for employment and each case will be reviewed by the insurance carrier); must have valid Colorado State driver license; must also be able to operate company vehicle, and adhere to all Federal, State, and local laws governing vehicle operation.
