General Responsibilities
The senior admissions coach is responsible for creating a positive, personal connection while guiding students through the processes of admission and registration, placement testing, residency requirements, financial options, orientation, program of study questions and thoughtfully transitioning the student to an academic advisor. The senior admissions coach will also work closely with providing support for prospective students in specialized programs. The senior admissions coach develops and maintains strong relationships with internal and external partners.
Work Performed

  • Serves as the primary admissions contact for prospective Nursing and Allied Health students This includes providing individualized coaching to applicants, assisting with prerequisites, program requirements, and enrollment steps
  • Facilitates group information sessions and one-on-one consultations to address admissions, financial aid, and program requirements
  • Works closely with the Nursing & Allied Health faculty, academic advisors and financial aid representatives to support students from application to enrollment
  • Provides guidance and support to prospective F-1 and immigrant students, including assistance with admissions requirements, testing and onboarding processes
  • Assists with managing all aspects of large caseloads of new, transfer, dual enrollment, and personal interest community college applicants to determine if there are barriers to enrollment and success at HCC
  • Works closely with the associate director to conduct Nursing & Allied Health application reviews. Additionally, this position will assist in refining admissions policies and procedures for Nursing & Allied Health programs to improve efficiency and student satisfaction
  • Develop and maintain relationships with community partners, including Howard County Public School System (HCPSS) to expand awareness of HCC's Nursing and Allied Health programs
  • Administers staff training programs related to converting a diverse pool of applicants to enrolled students and provides training to the Howard Hub as needed
  • Assists the director with the strategic planning process and onboarding of first-time students.
  • Serves on committees as requested
  • Employs technology and strategies to help students navigate through the enrollment and registration process. Compiles data reports as required
  • Assists newly admitted students with first semester planning
  • Provides guidance and support through the enrollment process assisting students as needed with the submission of required documentation and completion of registration activities
  • Contacts assigned roster of admitted students to send necessary communication and set up initial and follow-up appointments
  • Tracks and monitors student progress
  • Follows communication plan to keep student momentum moving, assisting students as needed to overcome enrollment obstacles
  • Clearly communicates enrollment requirements and refers to campus resources as needed to ensure student success
  • Develops and conducts programs and workshops to assist students and parents through the enrollment process
  • Provides on-going quality communication, effective customer service, and support to applicants with consistent outreach and follow-up including in-person activities, phone calls, and digital communication; documents and tracks contact data into computer systems ensuring compliance with any regulatory requirements
  • Other duties as assigned related to navigating the enrollment process

  • Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job. All degrees must be from a recognized institutional accreditor
  • Minimum of three years of prior college admissions or related experience
  • Demonstrated organizational and managerial skills
  • Ability to meet complex goals and collaborate with various departments on key initiatives.
  • Knowledge of college admission, financial aid processes, and community outreach
  • Competency in planning and delivering enthusiastic presentations via electronic media including webinars/webcasts
  • Competency in organizing data and preparing reports
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
  • Ability to communicate with applicants via social media modalities
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills; confidence speaking in small/large groups and with people from diverse backgrounds; and ability to quickly establish rapport and engage prospective students
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work/travel independently and set priorities to achieve goals/objectives
  • Demonstrated ability to foster a cooperative team-focused work environment.

Working Conditions
Work extended hours during peak periods. Substantial evening and weekend work. Extensive follow-up work, database use, responding to inquiries, meetings, etc. Ability to manage changing priorities in a fast-paced environment. Flexibility required.

Howard Community College offers competitive salaries, excellent medical and dental selections, tuition reimbursement and paid leave programs. As a participating member of the Maryland Retirement and Pension System, HCC offers two retirement options: The Pension, which requires a 7% employee contribution and The ORP, a 403(b) with a 7.25% employer contribution only. Employees in positions that do not require a bachelor's degree must participate in The Pension. Employees that possess a bachelor's degree and hold professional positions that require a bachelor's degree may choose to participate in either The Pension or The ORP.
