Student Engagement and Campus Life (SECL) in the Reeve Student Union serves as the hub for campus engagement and student involvement experiences. Under the supervisory purview of the AVC for Campus Life, the Director oversees and manages personnel, operations, policy, logistics, and strategic planning. They direct and provide strategic and administrative leadership for the Student Union in the areas of facilities and operations; student engagement and student organizations; and facilitate auxiliary partnerships.

Key Job Responsibilities:
  • Fosters a welcoming and inclusive environment to all students, faculty, staff, and guests of the Student Union

  • Develops and directs budget and approves unit expenditures.

  • By serving as building liaison, executes and oversees self-operated and/or contracted auxiliary services and operations within Reeve Student Union such as university dining, Follett books, UW Credit Union, and other services.

  • Coordinate on-going professional development for staff within Reeve Student Union. Ensure staff remain connected to relevant developments to support their work with student organizations

  • Exercises supervisory authority, including hiring, transferring, suspending, promoting, managing conduct and performance, discharging, assigning, rewarding, disciplining, and/or approving hours worked of full-time equivalent (FTE) employees

  • Serves as the liaison to internal and external stakeholder groups providing organizational information

  • Supervises student engagement initiatives such as student organization management and advising, student governance advising, student programs and activities, and entertainment contracts

  • Oversee the operations, safety and security of Student Union facilities, event services, maintenance, and equipment

  • Directs strategic planning initiatives and establishes objectives to ensure appropriate use of financial, administrative and staffing resources, and alignment with the strategic plan

Compensation:

Starting at $80,000, commensurate with experience

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree

  • Five years of administrative or leadership experience

  • Experience supervising professional staff

  • Applied knowledge of best practices and national trends impacting student involvement, engagement, and leadership development as demonstrated through work history

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's degree preferred

  • Five years of full-time professional work experience in higher education

  • Demonstrated experience with building operations or facilities management

  • Experience advising student government or student organizations

  • Experience managing complex budgets

Education:

Bachelor's degree required and master's degree preferred
