Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
The Cecil G. Sheps Center for Health Services Research seeks to improve the health of individuals, families, and populations by understanding the problems, issues, and alternatives in the design and delivery of health care services. This is accomplished through an interdisciplinary program of research, consultation, technical assistance, and training that focuses on timely and policy-relevant questions concerning the accessibility, adequacy, organization, cost, and effectiveness of health care services, and the dissemination of this information to policymakers and the general public.
Position Summary
The Research Assistant will work on the Pragmatic Evaluation of Events and Benefits of Lipid-Lowering in Older Adults ( PREVENTABLE) clinical trial. The purpose of this position is to recruit, gather, edit, analyze, and report data for the PREVENTABLE trial and associated ancillary studies. The ideal candidate will have full knowledge of research principles and methods to coordinate the collection and analysis of information. In particular, this position involves: - Administering the Short Physical Performance Battery ( SPPB) to currently enrolled participants - Completing follow-up and retention activities with enrolled participants - Obtaining and entering study measurements and data including medical record review - Recruiting and enrolling participants in the PREVENTABLE study and the Physical Performance ( SPPB) sub-study - Gathering informed consent - Project administrative duties including preparing project mailings, meeting scheduling and preparation, travel coordination, and other tasks as needed.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Bachelor's degree; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
* Strong verbal and written communication skills
* Ability to adhere to study protocol, and to research and IRB regulations
* Flexibility and excellent interpersonal skills
* Keen attention to detail, excellent organizations skills, and self-review of work for accuracy and completeness
* Passionate and comfortable working in a team environment
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
* Experience with Microsoft office (Word, Excel, Access) and web-based data collection systems (REDCap, Qualtrics) is highly desired
* Experience enrolling and consenting study participants
* Experience with healthcare settings and older adults is desirable
* Knowledge of and demonstrated skills in data collection, entry, and monitoring
* Basic understanding of medical terminology and ability to collect data through chart reviews
