We are seeking a uniquely qualifiedEngineering Technician III position to support Naval Surface Warfare Center Port Hueneme.

Position Description:

The Engineering Technician III will support the project task lead for a contract issued by NSWC Port Hueneme and be responsible for conducting technician tasks as assigned.

Work location and telework:

The government work location is the Port Hueneme, CA and you may be required on base, supporting the customer up to 5 days a week. Some teleworking or work from the contractor's location may be possible with the customers' approval.

Responsibilities and Duties:

Be able to provide semi-professional technical support for engineers working in such areas as research, design, development, testing, or manufacturing process improvement. Work pertains to electrical, electronic, or mechanical components or equipment. These technicians are required to have some practical knowledge of science or engineering. Some positions may require a practical knowledge of mathematics or computer science. Included are workers who prepare design drawings and assist with the design, evaluation, and/or modification of machinery and equipment.

Required Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • Technical school diploma
  • The Engineering Technician III performs assignments that are not completely standardized or prescribed, selects or adapts standard procedures or equipment, using fully applicable precedents, receives initial instructions, equipment requirements, and advice from supervisor or engineer as needed, and performs recurring work independently.
  • Work is reviewed for technical adequacy or conformity with instructions. This technician performs at this level one or a combination of such typical duties as:
    • Constructing components, subunits, or simple models, or adapting standard equipment; may troubleshoot and correct malfunctions;
    • Following a specific layout and scientific diagrams to construct and package simple devices and subunits of equipment.
    • Conducting various tests or experiments which may require minor modifications in test setups or procedures, as well as subjective judgments in measurement, selecting, preparing, and operating standard test equipment and recording test data;
    • Extracting and compiling a variety of engineering data from field notes, manuals, lab reports, etc., processing data, identifying errors or inconsistencies, and selecting methods of data presentation.
    • Assisting in design modification by compiling data related to design, specifications, and materials that are pertinent to specific items of equipment or parts; developing information concerning previous operational failures and modifications and using judgment and initiative to recognize inconsistencies or gaps in data and seek sources to clarify information.

Preferred / Desired Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • Secret Clearance
  • Certificates: None
  • Experience: 5 or more years
  • Specialized experience: Experience working with Navy or DoD contracts

Travel Requirements:

  • Limited travel to the continental United States (primarily east and west coasts)
  • Possible overseas travel
