Position Description The Senior Credit Review Officer I position is a career opportunity for a highly-experienced credit professional to join the Credit Risk Review team. The Senior Credit Review Officer I examines risks in loan relationships, creates and improves tools and processes, and leads the team's complex credit risk review events. Overall, the Credit Risk Review team is charged with providing an independent assessment of the Bank's loan portfolio and credit risk management practices. Credit reviewers conduct financial analysis and apply critical thinking skills to determine the quality and applicability of credit underwriting standards, risk ratings, and related risk management practices. The team's recommendations are communicated to lending personnel and credit administrators to strengthen the Bank's processes for lending to its communities. Position Accountabilities
- Conducts independent loan reviews of commercial loan relationships, with a particular focus on the Bank's larger and more complex credit exposures, as well as business banking and consumer loans, as needed.
- Assesses credit quality and adequacy of a loan's structure, monitoring, documentation, and risk rating for compliance with policy and regulations.
- Analyzes financial conditions of highly-complex commercial borrowers, as well as business banking and consumer loans, as needed, to determine loan repayment prospects and performs assessment of ongoing monitoring requirements.
- Clearly and professionally communicates loan concerns and credit risk review findings to influence positive change with lending personnel and credit administrators.
- Routinely organizes and manages complex and highly-complex loan review engagements. This includes selecting the sample, assigning the work, setting expectations with reviewers, reviewing and performing quality assurance on completed loan reviews, writing the report, discussing results with management, and following up for required responses.
- Identifies trends or risk factors and escalates to Credit Risk Review management for further review.
- Leads training sessions for credit and loan review subjects for which the individual is considered a subject matter expert.
- Serves as a resource to relationship managers, portfolio managers, credit administration personnel, and others regarding the risk rating system/process, loan policy, regulatory requirements, and general credit management practices.
- Maintains awareness of economic conditions, changes in business practices, and local market factors that impact credit risk and contributes to the development of the annual loan review work plan.
- Mentors and coaches Credit Review Officers, Senior Credit Review Analysts, and Credit Review Analysts on any aspect of the credit review processes/procedures.
- Leads team initiatives related to process improvements, policy and procedure revisions, and training.
- Performs assigned responsibilities in compliance with all job-relevant legal and regulatory requirements.
- May lead special projects and cross-functional teams, which include but are not limited to, the CECL Effective Review Team, CRE Stress Test Audit, Business Continuity Planning, User Access Reviews, and collaborative credit risk review events with Internal Audit.
Organizational Relationship This position reports to the Manager of Credit Review Operations and is designated as Fully Remote (must be a Bank-approved state for corporate employment residency) via the Bank's Flexible Workplace Program. Position Qualifications Education & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Finance, Accounting or equivalent (Certificate in Loan Review).
- 7+ years of experience in Loan Review, Commercial Lending, or Credit Administration.
Knowledge & Skills
- Ability to educate others on accounting and finance principles, loan documentation, current laws and regulations.
- Ability to work independently, problem solve, and collaborate with others to deliver work products on schedule.
- Subject matter expert in evaluating the risks in one or more types of lending (e.g., Retail, Business Banking, CRE, or C&I).
- Clear-cut ability to lead complex projects and successfully lead work teams to accomplish goals.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to listen to and respect the viewpoint of others.
- Life-long learner who enjoys seeing how consumers, businesses, and banks intertwine within the financial ecosystem.
- Proficiency with Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and business writing.
- Familiarity with nCino and/or Credit360 is a plus.
Salary offered will be based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, etc. This position is also eligible to participate in either an applicable incentive compensation plan for the position or a discretionary profit sharing bonus program.
