Metra is one of the largest and most complex commuter rail systems in North America, serving Cook, DuPage, Will, Lake, Kane, and McHenry Counties. The agency is linking communities in Northeastern Illinois by providing safe, reliable, and efficient commuter service. The Asset Management and Supply Chain Operation Division consists of all Storehouse and Warehouse Operations, Enterprise Asset Management (EAM), and Transit Asset Management (TAM). The purpose of the department is to service various customers within Metra. Managing the continuous supply of parts materials and services required to support Engineering, Mechanical and Transit Operations. The department operates Metra's four storehouses and one central warehouse. Additionally, the department manages the agency's Transit Asset Management (TAM) program and the Enterprise Asset Management (EAM) systems. Reporting to the GIS Manager, the Senior GIS Analyst position will integrate GIS (Geographic Information Systems) Technology with the Enterprise Asset Management (EAM) application to complete Transit Asset Management (TAM) program; develop and deploy a Capital Program management system that incorporates GIS Technology; and deploy a Change Management process for GIS data that incorporates the full life cycle of the agencies assets. The primary duties include: Perform a wide variety of advanced business process, analysis, and coordination functions to implement and maintain the integration and functionality of an enterprise GIS. Provide technical consultation, application development, and business solutions to departments and work groups throughout the Agency. Develop and design databases and build and manage scripts and other supporting technologies that ensure focused data solutions to meet operational objectives. Provide management, quality control, delivery, and utilization of GIS services. Perform a variety of advanced analytical and geo-processing functions to create, maintain, and retrieve data from the Agency's GIS. Develop and monitor GIS data quality control and update requirements and associated documentation to ensure proper data integration with other business systems. Develop and maintain data standards and procedures. Coordinate and review GIS data collection and mapping processes. Lead complex GIS system integration projects involving multiple enterprise applications in Finance, Engineering, Asset Management, Real Estate and Safety. Identify key business requirements, write, and produce GIS business functional specifications and workflows to meet the needs of the new business process or system. Provide high quality detailed consultation, technical support, and troubleshooting for key GIS-related applications, including working with contractors. Evaluate current procedures, workflows, and problems, and recommend changes and improvements. Train and support Agency staff in the use and applications of GIS data to perform analysis, complete inventories, and compile reports and studies. Promote safe work practices and maintain and foster a safe work environment. Perform other related duties as assigned to meet the ongoing needs of the organization.
