OVERVIEW OF THE COMPANYFox TV Stations FOX Television Stations owns and operates 29 full power broadcast television stations in the U.S. These include stations located in 14 of the top 15 largest designated market areas, or DMAs, and duopolies in 11 DMAs, including the three largest DMAs (New York, Los Angeles and Chicago). Of these stations, 18 are affiliated with the FOX Network. In addition to distributing sports, entertainment and syndicated content, our television stations collectively produce approximately 1,200 hours of local news every week. SUMMARY: FOX 2 Detroit is seeking a visionary Vice President, News Director to lead our news team in the vibrant Detroit TV market. We are looking for an innovative and competitive storyteller who can reimagine our approach to news and leverage digital platforms to elevate our brand. The ideal candidate will focus on discovering, nurturing, and developing compelling stories that enlighten and empower our audience, moving beyond traditional formats to engage viewers daily.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the station's news operations, working closely with the SVP/General Manager.
  • Collaborate with the Content Director to create consumer-focused content across multiple platforms, including digital and social media.
  • Manage the news department, including budgets, expenses, strategic planning, and technology integration.
  • Uphold standards for journalistic integrity and ethical reporting.
  • Foster strong working relationships with department heads, staff, executives, and key Detroit community leaders.
  • Experience in negotiating labor contracts and personal service agreements.

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 5 years' experience managing a news team, with a proven track record in launching new programs.
  • A bachelor's degree in journalism or related field of study from an accredited college/university.
  • Must have a working knowledge of journalistic ethics, libel and privacy laws.
  • Must have a demonstrated ability to manage multiple hours of daily newscasts and shows.
  • Must have excellent supervisory, people and management skills.
  • Requires a unique and diverse combination of computers, engineering, budgeting, purchasing, cost control, personnel issues and planning experience along with a background in journalism and TV news.
  • Must be able to use newsroom computer systems, including iNews.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and experience in budget management.
  • Insight into the future of local news programming, including Connected TV (CTV) and digital transformation.
  • Demonstrated success in transforming traditional news operations into digital-focused entities.
  • Excellent collaboration and teamwork skills.
  • Experience in a top 30 market
  • A hands-on leader with exceptional judgment, planning, organization, team building, and written/presentation skills.
  • Passion for creating high-quality content and a deep understanding of digital content and distribution.
  • Must be a great motivator
  • Ability to develop strong systems for the newsroom.

Pursuant to state and local pay disclosure requirements, the pay rate/range for this role, with final offer amount dependent on education, skills, experience, and location is $185,000.00-200,000.00 annually. This role is also eligible for various benefits, including medical/dental/vision, insurance, a 401(k) plan, paid time off, and other benefits in accordance with applicable plan documents. Benefits for Union represented employees will be in accordance with the applicable collective bargaining agreement.
