Summary
Performs a variety of research and research administration activities in direct support of the Department's research faculty and programs. Responsible for managing the overall functioning of the research operation. Serves as a front-line resource for researchers in the Department, acting as liaison to internal administrative units and external sponsors on matters relating to research programs.

-Responsible for oversight of all lab supply and equipment, purchasing and maintenance.

-Coordinates all regulatory and compliance activities.

-Trains staff in specialized lab techniques.

-Assists with subject scheduling.

-Provides input on strategy, based on knowledge of industry and trends.

-Applies project management techniques to ensure development initiatives stay on track.

-Contributes to scientific literature and may present the data at meetings.

-Carries out independent research projects which involve the execution of highly sophisticated techniques.

Education
Bachelor's Degree Related Field of Study required or Master's Degree Related Field of Study preferred

- Excellent organizational skills to ensure smooth functioning of lab.
- Demonstrated analytical skills and ability to logically sequence experiments to maximize research.

POSITION SUMMARY: The candidate will manage the lab research activities including purchases, managing breeding colonies, assisting in research projects and experiments, and maintaining cell cultures of the three labs (Chauhan lab, Yin lab, and Dohlman lab). ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: * Oversees and manages the day-to-day operation of a small to midsized lab. * Oversees use of laboratory funds, supply inventory and staff activities. * Responsible for financial management of the lab. * Oversees and manages lab personnel, including hiring, performance reviews, orientation, and training. * Functions as the lab safety officer, chemical hygiene officer and ensures lab meets all safety requirements. * Masters all research/scientific techniques used in the lab. * Teaches techniques to technical personnel, students, residents, research fellows, etc. who work in the lab and oversees their work daily. * Carries out individual research projects which involve the execution of highly sophisticated techniques. * Contributes to scientific literature and may present the results at meetings. * Participates in writing manuscripts, grants and IACUC/ IRB protocols. * Ability to make independent and effective decisions. * Excellent judgment and ability to interpret information. * Aptitude for technical problem solving. * Excellent organizational skills to formulate and complete timetables and meet the grants complex financial restrictions. * Strong working knowledge of NIH contract procedures and policies. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: * Bachelor's degree in biology or physical science, Masters preferred. * 5+ years related laboratory experience. * Experience with training, supervising and managing a lab and its staff is highly desirable. 2 WORKING CONDITIONS: Lab setting. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Possible lifting of 10 to 20 lbs., depending on nature of chosen project(s).
