Emplify Health by Gundersen Health System is seeking a full-time Polysomnographic Trainee (Sleep Tech Trainee) in La Crosse, WI to start on September 15th! This is an amazing opportunity to work under the supervision of a registered Polysomnographic Technologist (PSG) while completing the AASM Sleep Technologists Education Program (ASTEP) that will be fully funded.

Trainees will receive paid class, practice & on-site study time to encourage progression in the program and promote work-life balance. PSGs play a critical role in the delivery of patient care by administering sleep tests and providing patient care and education at our La Crosse Sleep Center.

What you will do:

  • .9 FTE (36 hours/week) - candidates must commit to a placement in the Emplify - Gundersen La Crosse Sleep Center where training occurs and maintain a .9 FTE which will mostly be night schedule.

  • Assist the Polysomnographic Technologist in preparing patients and monitoring equipment to perform sleep studies on patients as ordered by a physician.

  • Work with outpatients and their family members to perform Polysomnogram (PSG), with or without Positive Airway Pressure (PAP), Multiple Sleep Latency Test (MSLT), Maintenance of Wakefulness Test (MWT), ensuring accurate, and efficient, polysomnographic evaluation.

  • PSG Trainees are required to successfully fulfill requirements including:

AASM Sleep Technologists Education Program (ASTEP) Intro to Sleep Medicine for Technologists Course & Final Exam

  • 80-hours in-person synchronous education over a 3-week period and final exam.

  • During this 3-week period, you will work day shifts Monday-Thursday 8am-4:30pm and Friday 8am-12pm class.

ASTEP Intro to Sleep Medicine for Technologists

  • AASM's 26 self-study interactive learning videos/modules taking 1-4 months

  • While completing 960 hours (6-7 months) of on-the-job training clinical hours

  • This portion of the program will start after the first 3 weeks have been completed, and you will be expected to work 12-hour night shifts Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday which will be split 8 hours with Technologist training and 4 hours for module work online.

RPSGT registry & PSG role

  • Sit for and pass the national exam.

  • Work in La Crosse Sleep Center as a PSG for remainder of 2-year commitment.

What you need to be qualified:

  • High School Diploma or Equivalency + Completion of the A-Step Sleep program within 24 months of hire

  • Registered Polysomnographic Technologist (RPSGT) within 24 months of hire

  • Current Infant-Adult Basic Life Support for Health Care Providers (with hands on learning) from one of the following programs; American Heart Association or American Red Cross.

  • Must be able to work in La Crosse Sleep Center as a PSG for remainder of 2-year commitment.

  • 6 months of healthcare experience is desired not required. Those with healthcare experience will be given priority.

  • The ideal candidate has a desire for frontline healthcare, adaptability, self-motivation, detail oriented, effective communication skills, and desire to professionally grow.

  • Desired: Graduate of an Electroneurodiagnostic, Polysomnographic, Respiratory Therapist, Nursing Assistant, Medical Assistant or other healthcare related position

  • Gain knowledge & skills required to obtain certification after program completion.
