The Director of Alternatives will play a key leadership role within the OCIO Alternatives team, reporting directly to the Managing Director, Head of Alternatives. This role will support the development, execution, and oversight of alternative investment strategies, and will be instrumental in implementing investment processes, managing direct deal flow, and liaising across internal and external stakeholders to drive value creation across the insurance general account portfolio.

What You'll Do:

  • Generate and lead execution efforts related to new investment ideas, including diligence, underwriting and negotiation while assessing feasibility within capital and risk capacity frameworks.
  • Provide thought leadership on definition and fit of alternatives opportunities to the broader GA portfolio taking into consideration relative risk-adjusted return, capital efficiency, and correlation to represented asset classes.
  • Support portfolio management of existing alternative investments across asset classes including private equity, private credit, and other opportunistic strategies.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of alternative strategies by analyzing value drivers, capital requirements, and risk-adjusted return expectations.
  • Generate and evaluate new investment ideas, collaborating with senior team members to assess feasibility based on capital and risk capacity frameworks.
  • Monitor active investments and ensure ongoing compliance with investment strategy, risk limits, and performance expectations.
  • Collaborate with internal teams (e.g. Business Development, Portfolio Solutions, Portfolio Management, Legal, Operations, Risk) to ensure seamless engagement on investment objectives, portfolio fit, execution path.
  • Engage with external managers and partners to assess pipeline opportunities, maintain active dialogue on market developments, and support relationship management.
  • Prepare and present investment recommendations and performance updates to varied audiences, including senior leadership teams.
  • Participate in asset allocation and portfolio construction discussions, ensuring appropriate representation of alternative investments within the insurance general account.
  • Mentor team members, providing guidance on investment research, analysis, and professional development.

What You'll Bring:

  • Bachelor's degree in economics, finance, business administration or related field. Master's or related advanced degree preferred.
  • MBA, CFA, CAIA or other relevant designation preferred
  • 8+ years of experience in alternative investments, private markets, or a related institutional investment role. Understanding of and experience with insurance
  • Demonstrated experience in sourcing, analyzing, and executing private market transactions.
  • Strong understanding of risk-adjusted return concepts, portfolio construction, and capital allocation.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate cross-functionally with stakeholders at all levels.
  • High degree of professional maturity and the ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
  • The position is based at our head office in NYC with occasional travel required.

Pay Transparency

Salary Range:$120,000-$200,000

Overtime eligible:Exempt

Discretionary bonus eligible:Yes

Sales bonus eligible:No

Actual base salary will be determined based on several factors but not limited to individual's experience, skills, qualifications, and job location. Additionally, employees are eligible for an annual discretionary bonus. In addition to base salary, employees may also be eligible to participate in an incentive program.
