Job Description

General Summary:

Vertex Pharmaceuticals is seeking a Senior Manager, CMSC Business Operations to join the Commercial Manufacturing and Supply Chain organization. This position reports to the Assistant Director (AD) of Program Management and Strategic Operations (PMSO) and will be focused on the following activities.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

Communications (Internal and External to CMSC)

  • Contribute to the creation of cross-functional preparation of materials to support leadership meetings and enable rapid decision making; support with tracking and resolution of meeting actions

  • Coordinate and develop presentation materials for CMSC Town Halls and functional All-Hands Meetings with support from AD PMSO, when needed

  • Own and manage CMSC V-Net site including driving content creation, driving adoption, facilitating monthly steer-co meetings to ensure adoption of V-Net across CMSC, updating appearance of V-Net Landing page as needed to help increase adoption/usefulness of the tool

  • Create and facilitate biannual PMSO team on-site by driving creation of agenda, collating materials, facilitating the meeting and discussion, capturing actions and decisions

  • Support defining, developing and coordinating initiatives to enhance culture and collaboration, which may include the following: solutions as a result of PULSE survey results, incentives/gifts, team building activities, special events

Project Management

  • Support Exec. Director of PMSO and AD by developing meeting materials for various team meetings and governance forums, document minutes and track actions to completion.

  • Support Exec Director and AD to develop, codify, and refine governance operating models for CSMC (both small molecules and cell and gene therapies)

  • Advance CMSC governance as the business process owner and lead change agent; identify areas of opportunity and enhance areas that are working well; support the teams in creation of templates, tools and trackers

  • Own, manage and update DMF Tear Sheets as needed across CMSC to support clear decision making. This involves incorporating feedback and edits into existing tear sheets, coordinating with the business to identify additional tear sheets needed and co-creating tear sheet(s) with functional SME, ensuring approval from appropriate senior leader and driving adoption of the tear sheets

  • Drive and prepare materials for monthly PM alignment meetings across BSMO to ensure governance is efficient and effective

  • Support Exec. Director to develop structured strategy and business planning processes, including creation of templates to simplify and standardize CMSC operations

  • Assist with the tracking of departmental goals and functional goals, on a quarterly basis

  • Proactively identify areas of potential improvement and proposed solutions, and lead initiatives to execute on those solutions

  • Provide project management support on core business activities, as needed

  • Report to leadership on high-priority initiatives across the organization, as needed. This may include progress on initiatives that support Pulse Survey actions or special projects/urgent ad-hoc projects assigned from LT member(s)

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills; ability to craft top-notch presentations

  • Pro-active self-starter; results-oriented and ability to work independently

  • Strong interpersonal, collaboration and demonstrated leadership skills. Ability to quickly establish credibility, rapport, and trust at all levels in order to influence across teams.

  • Superior analytical and problem-solving skills, with demonstrated intellectual rigor

  • Ability to identify and distill key insights into the findings of the group and to articulate strategic decisions and rationale

  • Quickly adapt to many ad hoc requests to lead mini-teams and supply needed capacity

  • Comfortable working with quick turnaround times and deadlines

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • 6 years of experience in the biotech/pharmaceutical industry

Pay Range:

$136,400 - $204,600

Disclosure Statement:

The range provided is based on what we believe is a reasonable estimate for the base salary pay range for this job at the time of posting. This role is eligible for an annual bonus and annual equity awards. Some roles may also be eligible for overtime pay, in accordance with federal and state requirements. Actual base salary pay will be based on a number of factors, including skills, competencies, experience, and other job-related factors permitted by law.

In this Hybrid-Eligible role, you can choose to be designated as:
1. Hybrid: work remotely up to two days per week; or select
2. On-Site: work five days per week on-site with ad hoc flexibility.
