Description of Work |
Reporting directly to the Chancellor, and serving as a member of the executive cabinet, the Vice Chancellor and Chief of Staff serves as the senior advisor of the Chancellor's executive staff. The position is responsible for the management and central coordination of all activities of the Chancellor's office. The Vice Chancellor and Chief of Staff provides professional support and counsel to the Chancellor on matters related to the efficient and effective management of the university and university related business; and is expected to identify, assess and analyze significant issues and opportunities that require the attention of the senior leadership. Competencies/Knowledge Skills, and Abilities Required in this Position |
Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills including creative writing, presentation development and presentation skills, research a diverse array of topics, and distill the key messages in preparation for presentations
Possess skills in management and leadership with the ability to direct programs, staff and cross-functional teams in an efficient and effective manner
Excellent organizational and analytical skills and the ability to formulate recommendations and improve team dynamics, while establishing and maintaining collaborative working relationships with administrators, faculty, staff, students, and the public.
Ability to work effectively under pressure, handle multiple priorities, tasks, demands and time sensitive matters with the ability to think strategically while coordinating and balancing multiple tasks
Possess the ability to work cooperatively and strategically in a team environment with all levels of professional, technical, and administrative staff and integrate resources on a timely and organized basis
Comprehensive knowledge of the principles, practices and methods utilized in progressive leadership and staff level management and the ability to prioritize work actions and follow-up with meticulous attention to detail and accuracy
Exceptional interpersonal skills including tact, patience, and acumen and the ability to work with many, diverse individuals and groups across various functions establishing and maintaining effective and harmonious relations with students, faculty, staff, University officials and the general public
Experience working in a fast-paced environment; and commitment to completing tasks on time and to the highest ethical and professional standards with knowledge in the usage of technology including (Microsoft Office Suite); Excel and PowerPoint |
License or Certification Required by Statute or Regulation |

Management Preferences |
A master's degree is required (a doctorate is preferred) with at least five years of progressively responsible administrative and/or professional management experience preferably within higher education or a combination of education and experience. |
